Yea i want to do my front sub-frame bushings and i was wondering if it would be easier with the engine in or out? Also i was wondering what bushings i should get the solid or stocks or is there some out there better then stock? And also i have never removed the sub-frame. I have been reading so i don't quite understand the removal. Thanks. :thumb:

Ok what all do you have to take off my engine is out right now? I am confused on that part. I know i got to take the rack and pinion out of the car right? or no

Ok and I would like to know what bushings i should buy? I like aftermarket and i would like to know how the aftermarket bushings are on the sub-frame?

I have not done my bushing's. But I did rip everything out, down to the sub-frame. I redid all my control arms and rack and pinion. You will have to unbolt tie rod end's, and sway bar link's. Unbolt sway bar bracket's. Then remove sway bar. Next unbolt the steering colume from power steering rack. Then unplug p/s hose's. Next unbolt the rack and remove. You can do this next step in the beginning or now. Unbolt roll stop motor mount's. (front and back) And remove cross member that connects the radiator support to sub-frame. now it should be as easy as unbolting the sub-frame and lowing it out from underneath the car.

Ok my engine is out so it will be easier this way right? And should i buy the solid motor mounts. Is there a lot of noise from these solid bushings?

Yeah it will be easier with the engine out.

I can't comment on the bushings because I have no personal experience with them yet and I have yet to see much data from those that do. They've not been around all that long. I've worried that using solid ones would stress the metal mount points for the subframe too much resulting in cracks and perhaps requiring additional support (perhaps just extra welding?), but I'm really talking out of my ass as I've never inspected the mount points myself nor do I know how to determine when something needs reinforcement and when it's good enough. Just me being being overcautious perhaps :)

I think the guy who sells the solid ones also sold some with poly inserts as well, but don't quote me on that. It's not something I've kept up on. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Ok cool. I just looked at them and it dont seem to bad to put those ones in he makes. I might just do it before i paint my bay and put my block back in. I also have to get a 3g master cylinder a booster before i put my block back.

Ok thanks for the info that helps me out a lot.

But i have a 2g not 1g. And i haven found any poly bushings. And why not go solid bushings.

Yea i finally got to putting my sub-frame back in today it has been awhile sense i last did any work on that part. I have a couple questions now that i am torquing it down. The first one is the washers do I still put them back on? And i cant really remember the right way? Also The torque for those two bolts and the four nuts? Thank for any help.

Yes, reuse the washers with the lip pointing down and use new nuts (MB242260).

Subframe nuts = 84 ft.lbs.
Subframe bolts = 71-85 ft.lbs.
