I just recently installed a EVO 8 ecu in the 97 tsi. I would like to run TephraMOD v7 with 96530706, my problem is that I cannot figure out what to do with the MAF scaling for the 2g maf with the MAF adder feature. I tried to input the scaling table from the how-to but it does not switch over. I really just need a little guidance here and I will get the hang of this. I previously had a 2g ecu flashed and working well. I f I install a EVO maf then I can just run the scaling that is in the ROM now right??

Thanks. I have a wideband and EVO scan. My issue with the V7 is that when I try to rescale it according to the how-to I cannot get the numbers to go low enough. For example, The first box which is 19HZ, the lowest I can enter is 175.5, it is like that for about the first 5 boxes. I can change the maf size to 260.0, but the car is not happy. I am fairly sure it has to with the fact that they have included the maf adder feature into the maf scaling table??

MAF size actually has no effect (from what i can tell) on the air/fuel calculations. The MAF scaling and compensations tables are where it's at.

I'll have to download a copy tomorrow and see if I have the same problems.
Are you using the fresh v7 xml that came with your ROM? They had a different system setup compared to v5.10.

I just downloaded the entire package from the second post of the TephraMOD v7 thread for 96530706. I also tried v5.10 and could not get the car to start, just sputter and die. I started playing with flashing the 2g ecu about 1 month ago with no issues, Then I got this free evo ecu so I though I would try this atleast until the 2g ecu if more figured out.

hey guys dont mean to jack the thread just want to know about running the evo ecu and maf on 2g... im interested in doing this so i can read more acurately and not have to go with the gm maf option.... just a quick explaination would be nice

and can i run the evo maf with a 2g ecu?

You can get a flashable 2g ecu from a 98 or 99 gst or gsx also. It is much easier and less confusing than the EVO ECU. You can run either the 2g maf or evo maf with either ecu.

Here is a link to flashing the 2g ecu's

You will need to buy the tactrix 2.0 cable, some type of wideband and EVOscan datalogger. Then prepare to do alot of reading to get things working correctly.

You have to change the MAF scaling and the injector scaling. Did you at least do those?

My car would sputter and die with the MAF scaling suggested at the begining of the Evo 8 swap thread. Try using one of the MAF scalings from that second thread I linked you to.

Are you sure that you have both valet mode and the immobilizer disabled? Have you ever successfully started the car?

When I switched to a release candidate for V7 the maf scaling changes were the same as a stock rom but I haven't ever run the final release of v7 so that might not be helpful and since I run SD now I never will mess with the scalings. We'll see how it goes when I switch to the new v7 in a couple of weeks.

Just to experiment I went to the junk yard today and got a 482 maf sensor which is virtually identical to the evo maf and wired that up. First i tried my version 5.10 with the injector size and latency changed accordingly and the car still wont run on that rom, will just sputter. I switched to the Tephra v7 rom with injector stuff changed and the car runs fine, except for it is very very lean, which I did not expect since evos are so rich. In boost it was about 14:1. I am not sure if I should start tuning from this point or if I still have something wrong.

The injector scaling is a 680 with PTE 780's , boost is at about 15 psi.

I ended up swapping back to the 2g ecu today. I am going to make a jumper harness so I can install the evo ecu without all the trouble everytime.
