New guy here with a sick 95 Eclipse NT that 3 mechanics couldn't figgure out so now I'm stuck goin it own my own... It used to stall intermittenly when coasting to a stop, and I spent a lot of $$$ (with the mechanics) trying to fix that but nothing worked. Then it finally died on the freeway doing 40 one day and stayed dead. At least now that it's staying broken and it's not intermittent I can try to track it down and hopefully you guys can help.

It turns over strong, but I have no spark. So I started with the standard diag and a wiring diagram from Chliton's (they have a copy of it on Autozone.com for free too, just in case anyone else needs one.) I've used a meter to check every fuse I can find (The main box and the one by the driver's feet) and they all are good.

With the key "on" I get no power to the center post on the 3 wire connector going to the coil, and I get no juice to any of the injectors. According the the diagram those should all be hot the minute I turn on the key. I do however get 12 v at the EGR solenoid. After reading another post it sounded like the ASD relay could keep power from getting there, but on the diagram it looks like it's connected to the same 12v feed as everything else.

I thought that the ignition switch might be bad, so I unplugged it and jumpered it to make the connections. There was still no voltage, so I don't think that's it. But now I'm not sure where to look next.

Any ideas? Have I missed something blindingly obvious?

Your ASD relay supplies power to the coils (your center post) and the part of the ECU that controls coils and injectors. Sounds like it is bad or the wiring to/from it is. You should always have +12V on the ASD relay red/black and black/white wires. When the ECU connects the red/white wire to ground (ignition on/start position), the ASD relay should activate putting +12V on the black/red wire (pin 2) which then goes to the coils and ECU. Check these voltages - if the black/red never gets power but the rest are correct, replace the ASD relay.

I checked the relay, and had power to the red/black and black/white wires. I tried 2 things,

1) jumpering the red/black to the black/red without the relay and
2) grounding the red/white to the battery manually with the relay attached

With both I got 12v to the coil plug, but the car would still not start. Thinking about it now, I probably should have checked for spark again, but I forgot. When I grounded the red/white wire I could hear the relay click over, so it sounds like that's probably ok.

Any other ideas?

Yes but first see if the ECU is grounding the red/white to activate the relay. If not the ECU is probably bad (check for leaking capacitors inside). If the ECU is not activating the relay then it isn't going to fire the coils either. If you have +12V on the red/white (note: relay is connected but it's not activating so it floats to +12V), then see what you have at the ECU end of that same wire (pin 67). If zero, the wire is broken. If +12V the ECU is not working.

The ECU would be where? Is it the box in the dashboard, or one of the two big computers up front by the fuse box?

I bought an OBDII code reader to use on this and my wife's Durango. When you plug it in to the Durnango and hit read, it comes back with a menu and lists "no codes". When I plug it into the Eclipse it just says "reading" forever.. Although it does say "connected" before I press the read button. Does this info help any?

Its Your Ecu Man, I Just Had The Same Problem With My Car And Had To Replace The Ecu. Its Very Common For Them To Go Bad. If Anything Check Out This Website You Could Get Them For Cheap Ecmtogo.com

If the black/red only comes on when the relay activates it at ECU/COIL for a 5 second span. where does the coil get constant 12v? Or am I reading this wrong, ECU activates ASD which supplies a constant 12v to the coil? Oddly I only have 5 ref at the coil but not 12v. I was tempted to run a new wire right from the coil plug connector right to the black red on my pcm but now I am not too sure. I figured if I had a wiring issue it would be in the harness so instead of searching for a break i was just going to run a new wire.

this helped me figure out my '95 gs no start. thanks!!
