i searched thru quite a few threads and did not see this particular problem.

i got my datalogger (obdlogger.com) last night in the mail. all the software come preinstalled on the pda. i read all the how to's that are also preinstalled. so i hook it all up and start the car and press the "F1" button to start the log, and i get an error saying "no rev" after i close out that box, up at the top of the screen it says connection failed. so i unhooked it and tried to start a log, and i got the same error. so it seems as tho the pda is not picking up the obd port at all.
i am a 98 tsi with a 95 ecu chipped and socketed. i know the port works fine because i have had a CEL and had it read at autozone with no problems. any ideas? any help would be appreciated. :talon:

When did you have it read my autozone? I know it's on a fuse, I forget which one off the top of my head, but I've ran into it being blown and not reading on that port. Have you put a voltimeter to the port, and checked out the fuses likewise? If that's all good check the wirring.
If all else fells you can try to contact odblogger.com http://www.obdloggers.com/contact.htm

it was back in july that i had the CEL. where on the port would i put a voltimeter? i will checj the fuses tomorrow.

I believe fusible link no 2 in your engine dedicated fuse compartment.(according to the manual, "scan tool powersource")But after reading it that also controls your your interior lights, radio, etc...so I don't know.
I'm not sure which wire it is, just probe away until you find out.
The reason is probably a defect in the power supply system(including ground)for the diagnostic line.
Check the wires and connections from the data link connector to the fuse junction box.

got it figured out. took it to a buddy of mine and it had to do with the connection option on the pda. i dont know much about them. thanks for the attempted help tho.

PalmStein sometimes does that when it isn't reading the signal correctly. If you're using the Palm IIIxe model, the cable to serial port on the pda isn't exactly a firm connection. When you get "no rev" try wiggling the cable at the pda port. That usually works. Also, PalmStein lets you set the options to trigger upon hitting 1000rpm or something like that, so I'm guessing you had that option selected.

yea i have the palmstein on the palmIIIxe. it has the OBD gauge on it too. whenever i select that it just says initializing, and never does anything else. anyone know anything about this?

Same thing, wiggle the connection to the pda port. If you're getting a signal on palmstein, then obdgauge should work too. Make sure your options are set according to the instructions that came with your logger...there should be an obdgauge manual on the pda as well as on the cd.

I like OBDGauge for logging because the graphs are more flexible. You can also use OBDGauge with usb easier, since there is software to send the data to PC and even export to Excel format.

But I use PalmStein for reading/clearing DTC codes, because it doesn't crash like OBDGauge does. But PalmStein's software for exporting data to PC isn't very good because it was never finished...and it does not work with usb cables.

Btw, how many samples do you get per second? I only get 3.6/sec for some reason.

i dont know, im new to datalogging. still tinkering around with it. guy that is doing my tune said he needed it to tune the SAFC.

Next time you have it connected, take note of the number at the top of the screen which shows how many sampler per second it is reading: "xx.x / sec". I'm curious what you're getting because we have the same logger. The low sample rate on mine is making logs difficult to decipher without enough info, and you might have the same problem. If so, this Palm IIIxe model may be too underpowered for logging effectively.

If its a 2G you can't, you need to estimate by seeing where timing is pulled. I forgot the exact number, but I think it's something like 1 degree of timing is pulled per 4 counts of knock. Or 7 counts. I forgot which.

according to obdgauge im getting 5.7/sec

Does it stay there? Mine reads that when it starts, then drops to 3.6/sec. However, I started using PalmStein when I need more detail frame by frame. It's faster, but can't export with usb cable.

yea it seems to stay there.my screen blanks out sometimes using palmstein. i like having the "page numbers" at the bottom of the screen with obdgauge. easy to look at multiple things.

OBD Graph with OBDGauge. It's linked in an above post. PalmStein has an unfinished beta program called TunerPlayer, but it only works with serial cables, no usb.

im using pocketlogger, and my palm saves the files as "pda" files. then i hotsync and try to open them on the comp and it says it cant open ### of a unsupported file format.
im close to giving up on this whole data logger thing and going with link even though i have no mods. i bet ill be glad i did in the future tho.

yea i plan on going with link in the near future. i needed the logger for an upcoming tune. once i get link the logger will be for sale.
