So, the guy I bought my car from did a conversion to put a 95 AWD trans in my 6 bolt 1gb. I've been finding conflicting information, but it seems in order to do this there's some internal modification required for the manual 2g trans. The conversion's already done. The car should fit amother 2g trans, but if I have to open a trans, I don't see it as worth it. If another 2g isn't plug & play, I'll probably undue the conversion. I have a 2g 23 spline tcase, and of course the 95 trans was 23 spline. If I undue the conversion, and put in a 1g 23 spline, will the 23 spline 2g tcase work? What should I do at this point? My family's going through hard times, and I can't afford much.

A friend had a 92 here that had a 2g tranny in it. No modifications to the inside was required that he mentioned

^This post says there should be, and I'm pretty sure the 1g galant trans & the 1g dsm trans are interchangeable. I've also seen another post mentioning the same mods. I don't feel like the guy I got it from would go through the trouble just for a 2g trans, but I wouldn't put it past him. I appreciate your input.

Has anyone done this conversion?

Unless i missed it I didnt see anything in that thread that said about internal work. As far as I know and have gathered, you dont need to change anything inside tranny just swap some sensors n mess with swapping/trying different shift levers. Goodluck

Bummer that the pictures are broken. It would of been nice to see how he modified his shift control arms.

Youre confused because there are two different 2g trannies. Both will bolt into a 1g. 97 up cars used a different final drive ratio. You must use its matching 97 up tcase. If you dont do this and choose to use a 90 to 96 tcase then you must also change the final drive inside the transmission. Either solution works. Just as a point of interest some jdm w5m33 trannies did match us spec dsm trannies. You have to verify the drive ratio in those also.

Yeah, I knew that. I was really wondering whether or not the 1g & 2ga 23 spline tcase were interchangeable. Thanks though. Yeah, come to think of it, I can't find it saying internal mods in that post. Maybe, I was tired. Idk. Thanks either way.

All the tcases are the same.the only change is the gear set inside. Obviously the input on a 90 is 22 spline. Physically any of them would bolt up to any awd tranny with the correct spline count.

All manual tcases that is...auto is different
