I just picked up a 2g auto gsx. I also have a 1g 5speed gsx. Is it possible to swap the 2g transmission and transfer case directly into the 1g car without any major mods? I know I will need a 1g flexplate and tcu but will the mechanical parts work in the 1g?

Please only tell me your personal experience with this matter. I've searched many forums on this but haven't found anyone asking specifically asking if the whole drivetrain will swap into the 1g/6bolt. Thanks guys

As far as the transfer case side of things I am unaware. I auto and manual have different ratios so I would assume the rear end would need to be changed out to that of a 1g automatic..? Purely assumptions based off of the difference between the generations.

I am going to follow this thread as I have a similar problem. Mine is a '94 Colt however and a F4A33/FWD automatic. The whole frame mounted mount and transmission mounted mount threw me off as well. MY idea was to source the mounts off of a F4A33 from a 1g to see if the mounts are the same then the issue would be solved. Maybe the same would be the case for you with the AWD; IDK!

Hopefully some people find this thread and give out some good information!

Edit:

Also just to add; you should consider getting the "6-bolt in a 2g" kit from Kiggly Racing. ASSUMING this gets sorted out and such. The factory flex plates cannot even stand up to a stock 2g. Ask me how I know. LOL

the mounts on the 2g are on the transmission, not the block like the 1g. not impossible issue to fix if you can weld.
This is irrelevant to the question being asked. The OP has never mentioned swapping engines, only swapping the 2G transmission and t-case into a 1G body and mating to a 1G 6-bolt engine. That means that, in a 1G, the engine mounts are still on the 1G engine and simply introducing more mounting points via the 2G transmission does not change where the engine mounts.

The 6-bolt in a 2G kit from Kiggly is a good idea. Here's a good read for a manual transmission: 2g trans works in 1g?

I am not positive what would need changed for an automatic, as far as sensors and switches go.

Thanks guys. I've read just about every 2g trans in 1g thread but haven't found anything specially about a 2g auto going into a 1g manual car.. And all anyone seems to talk about is the t-case on all of those threads
