St. Catharines,
I had purchaced a brand new set of wheels early on this summer (still not yet installed), 17 X 7, 38mm offset with 225/45/17 tires. and unfourtunatly for me, did not realize the limitations regarding the tire widths. I would like to get 245's on my car. Now I understand that this is not going to happen on these rims. So I have been looking at wheel spacers, to move the wheels out a bit for a better stance and was wondering if it would be unsafe to use these 25mm spacers? The other option is to make a set of 5mm shims (with stock studs) until I can buy another set of 17 X 8 rims with proper offset. (no money for a while, a couple years down the road)

Thanks for your help!

Chris.

The adapters your mentioning above are safer than wheel spacers, but nothing is better than proper wheel fitment.

The adapters will be fine for daily driving, just remember that 25mm is an inch, so your adding 2 inches of width to your wheelbase.

Is there a negative side to adding 2" to your wheelbase? (Of course providing that they don't rub!LOL ) I don't want to look like I'm driving a rollerskate, just want a better stance and handling. As long as this is not a safety issue, I would like to do it. If I deside to go to some track days or do some agressive driving, do the adapters pose a saftey risk?

I thouhgt I had seen wheel spacers that were a set of longer studs with a spacer with 5 holes in it. This spacer looks like it is a complete set of lugnuts that recess into the spacer? Is that safe? What about heavy?

Adapters and actually quite light, between 8 and 16 ounces. The lugs weigh more than the spacer itself. As for durability, I have never seen or heard of someone using adapters that failed. I have seen lugnuts srtip out, and lugs sheer off, but never a spacer or adapter fail.

Adding 2 inches of wheelbase ifsfine as long as nothing rubs while turning or cornering hard, oh and dont forget about potholes. The downside to adding wheelbase is that it is illegal in most states to have any part of the tire / wheel protruding past the fender wall.

Thank you for your input. This helps a great deal! I was concerned about something breaking, especially during hard cornering.

Save the money and invest it into a set of wheels instead. The 7" wheel is too narrow to mount a 245 tire on. It can be done but it looks terrible and you defeat the purpose of having a wide tire if it is mounted on a wheel that is too narrow.Save and get a set of 8-8.5" wide wheels if you must have a 245 tire.

As I had said, I wasn't planning on putting 245's on my 7" rims, just move them out a bit for some improvement instead. I have since been looking at wheels, and would now like to buy a set of 17X8's (upon sale of my current 17X7's), what it the offset that I should be looking for? From my searching, I have found that 17X8 with an offset of +35 might be O.K. Is this right?
Oh, and I'm ok with a set of 235 tires.:) Just W A N T 245's:cool:

Thanks again for the help!

Chris.
