will a 205/55/r 16 tire fit on a rim with a 245/50/r 16 on it? i know it will have to stretch alot but can it fit?

No amount of stretching will fit two tires on a wheel.

is that a joke. that's not what you're doing is it?
why do you ask? from my calculations there is about a 1 1/2 inch difference in width so maybe you should just stick to what fits. ask a pro.

no, It won't fit.
You can go with 215's if you want, but you will have to drop to a 45 series tire... 215/45/16
... This is for the stock rim
PS. I sell tires, I know :)

Please tell us where you work, so we know where not to go.

The only thing that would prevent someone from putting a 205/55/16 tire on a rim that has been used for a 245/50/16 is if the rim is too wide for a 205, such as 7.5" or wider (although I've seen 205s on 7.5" wheels, so maybe even that is too cautious). Since the original post does not include the wheel width, anyone answering this question is either a fool or is making assumption.

Note that if we make the assumption that these are stock 16" wheels, then there's no problem at all, since stock 16s are only 6" wide. I rather doubt that we are talking about stock wheels, however, since it would have been a bi*** to get 245s on a 6"-wide rim.

This is what I was thinking.

Burnworth, what is the wheel width so we can accurately answer your question?

I ran 215/50/16s - a 50 series sidewall is too thin, but the tire fits fine. A 45 series tire would just be ridiculous. Your speedo would be so off that it'd not be funny. Try 225/50/16, it matches stock diameter pretty closely.

I have 215/45/16's they aren't too bad, speedo is off about 6mph.

and if you think running 245s on the stock rim would work, your an idiot.

Stepping up to a wider tire, requires a smaller tire series, You don't have to have 45's, 50's would be better. with 215/50/16 your sidewall would be 5.25 mm shorter than stock, not a big deal. I used 45's because I got a great deal on some Falken Azenis Sport R/T autocross tires. next time I am stepping up to 50's. A 225 wide tire is too wide for our stock rim, It may fit, but it is not ideal to have.

sorry guys i was in a hurry and had to leave,so i didnt fully give all the info. my mistake. heres how it goes, the rim is on a 91 camaro z28. its a 16" rim and about 7.5" width, and a 245/50/16 tire. i didnt have $100 a tire to buy new, and couldnt find any used. i had 4 brand new tires in the garage off my laser thats 205/55/16. i wanted to know if i could put them on my camaro rim. after looking at it i knew it wouldnt fit but i asked without first looking, or giving the right info  sorry i should of known better. my fault. i wont do that again. i dont have a computer so it took me a while to get back on. i found some new tires so its ok, but thanks for all the help. i appriciate it. even though you guys didnt know the right info. next time i will ask after looking and researching first. :thumb:
