What performance parts has he done to the car that the dealer installed?
Forgive me because I know NOTHING about GM performance, but I know he has a pulley kit installed which changed the boost level of the Supercharger and a water-to-air cooling system which has it's own reservoir and water pump to cool the air intake charge.

There are some other goodies like a GM ECU tune to take advantage of the added boost from the pulley mod, but nothing too extreme. Definitely a fun little car, and I think the Ion looks better than the Cobalt, but it's no DSM!

Well it seems like a good package for the price. But 330 Horses sounds unfeasible with a stock car and a ''tune''. I personally call BS but said, ''Wow man, nice numbers'' Im not going to call the guy out in the middle of the office without even knowing him. haha

if they are anything like most turbocharged cars nowadays, boost is controlled via ECU, so not only are you tuning fuel and timing, but boost delivery as well.

i could see this gain also being feasible, but likely a good amount of timing was added.

if its direct injection then they can get away with it since fuel is introduced right before spark, so you will never get pre-ignition/knock like we get. this also means you can really ramp up the timing and lean it out more since knock/preignition will not occur.

Go hit the Cobaltss forums. There are more then a handful that have dynoed over 300hp with just a tune. and a bunch are runnin 12s. These things are pretty beastly. ZZP performance has run 11.9 on the stock turbo as well..

I don't know much about these but I could see it being possible if that tune included more boost. I know the guy I sold my drag radials to had a S/C SS & he had a buddy who just picked up the new turbo version. I can't remember 100% but I'm pretty sure he said the guy ran something stupied like 13.6 (or may have even been slightly faster, like 13.2-13.4, wish I could remember) in a 100% bone stock car with the factory street tires. For a stock fwd car, that really impressed me. Needles to say everyone at the track (& even the owner) was like WTF?

Im surprised that gm still makes a cobalt ss. I read in a magazine about a year ago that said gm was done with the ss and was only gunna be producing base models. And then 6 months later I here they are turboing the cobalt instead of the supercharger.????

I wouldn't buy a cobalt because it's FWD, and direct injection.

Direct injection might be the future, but right now no one is spending the money to develop direct injectors that can support 400+whp.

Mazda guys (speed 3 and 6) are stuck in the low 300whp range because the 1700psi DI pumps and fuel rail restrictions cant flow enough, and upgrade pumps aren't really reliable/affordable yet.

Cobalt guys are stuck near 400whp, when they can't extend the duty cycle any longer. Keep in mind that because a DI is in the cylinder, it can only spray on the intake stroke, while a conventional injector can spray non-stop.

VW guys use extra injectors and stand alone controllers because DI cant flow enough. A guy i know of popped a motor this way because he used budget injectors and one didn't flow equal to the rest.

I'll pass on Direct Injection until an OEM or a tuning company bites the bullet and dumps serious money into development.

ZZP Cobalt is over 500hp with a BW turbo on there Cobalt. they have found ways to bump up the fuel pressure. Link. results on page 7. ZZP LNF Turbo Upgrade- First Dyno Session - Cobalt SS Network

That's great for those guys.

I haven't followed the SS stuff in a little while, and apparently they're getting somewhere.

I looked on the ZZP website and didn't see anything about what they did to the fuel system, and i don't have time to really look right now.

After watching the problems a friend had, I still don't trust aftermarket mods on DI systems just yet.

Yea. from what i read. they still ended up running out of fuel at the 500hp mark, and like 24lbs of boost.
i dont think they are releaseing any info on the fuel modifications yet.
