I've read through most the 2.5" exhaust vs 3" posts, and haven't really seen anybody mention ground clearance. I'm debating on which to get, and the only reason I'd get 2.5" is because I'd be too paranoid of scraping/denting the shit out of the piping & muffler. I'm planning on lowering with the Eibach Pro springs.

So anybody with 2.5" or 3" piping, chime in!

ya thats exactly what i was thinking about when i ordered my 3" turboback, just because on 1g cars, theres a point in the exhaust near the back where it is way lower than everything else down there. I was gonna lower it 1", and i'm getting newer smaller tires, plus i'm going up to 3" so i'm scared on what might happen. I prolly wont even lower it cause i dont have the money for the springs right now and its already lowered more than stock i think.

I am not sure about the 1g but I have a 3" on my 95 gsx and I have had no clearance problems. I did weld my own turbo back though and since I love dirt roads, off roads, fourwheeling, mud, snow, and rocks I made sure to stick it as high as possible. The upside is I have not had clearance problems, The down side sometimes it hits heatshields, or my rear controll arm and doesn't sound to pretty but I would rather that than dragging it on the ground.
I have also heard some companies rout the exhaust under the rear suspension seriously compromizing clearance. Make sure it follows the path of the stock exhaust.

Since you're going 1/2" bigger all around, it'll only be 1/4" closer to the ground. The difference will be very subtle. It basically comes down to how the piping is shaped underneath the car.

1g's still have pretty good ground clearance, even after lowering them enough to remove the wheel gap. Just dont be a clown going into driveways or over speed bumps. If this still concerns you, research which brands go under, or over the axle in the rear. (This is where the problem lies)

From first hand experience i can say

RnR: Under
ATR: Over

Good stuff so far...also, people talk about 3" being louder than 2.5"...how much louder? Does it affect the tone? I want it to be as deep as possible. Don't really care if it's that loud or not.
