So, I'm thinking about buying a slowboy racing 2.0l short block for my 98 gst. I was wondering what kind of opinions you had on this an what kind of internals would you go with?

If I was you, I would just build it. It will be some great experience, cause you'll probably end up needing another engine later on. And they aren't as hard to build as you would think.

Just want to throw this out there on what you guys are saying. I built mine, and it took alot of time going through alldata and double checking myself on torque specs and things like putting a mic to the valves and valve guides making sure everything lines up and is to spec. Then there is balancing the rotating assembly and making sure everything is oiled/lubed correctly during assembly. Not to throw anyone under the proverbial bus, or say the OP can't do these things, but there are people out there that just aren't that intelligent.

Yes, but the cost of parts and machining versus the cost of those racing engines, even if you had to go to a machine shop for assembly is still less.

People can learn. It isn't that difficult. I don't think you need to be intelligent to build a good engine, just have common sense and a little mechanical knowledge.

Oh yea Building as opposed to Buying.....It's Apples to Oranges....and I do love my Apples LOL, and like I stated there is plenty of Technical data out there to go by, the forums, Alldata(my favorite), hell even the Haynes Manual. I suppose you can train even the stupidest monkey, I mean hell I built mine and it didn't blow sky high hahahaha

:Edit:
I just wanted to add a short list what I bought to build mine cause I actually left the original motor in my car while doing my build

Bare Turbo Block-75$+Shipping off of the old Maddsm.com...dont know if that still exist anymore
Bare Cylinder head- 50$ from a local Junk yard

Just to give you an Idea.....its really not that expensive and maybe steer you a different route from wasting a lot of money.

Like these guys said its cheaper to build.

i appreciate everyone help and opinions but its not that i dont know how to build a motor or am to lazy to do it, its just the fact im more comfortable with knowing i have a "new" engine block an not a rebuilt one even if its been remaned its still cool by me.. plus money isnt a issue here.. but im not knocking yalls opinions or anything i highly appreciate yalls input..

Building and engine isnt something ill do. And ill do anything to my car. Its something id rather have my machinist do properly than me try to do. Im sure i could learn, but i dont want to. Get on a local forum and ask some people who they like to take their motors to to get rebuilt and give them a call and ask for pricing.

I applaud people who want to build them yourself!

We are going to offer packages this year as well for those people - we will have a machined block, all the correct parts, and you can save our $400.00 assembly fee for a shortblock and DIY!

I do have a simple 6 bolt longblock that can ship (already built) - I think Joe has a page up somewhere with the price here on Tuners as well.
