Engine was rebuilt 50k ago
Door handles don't work, have to get in via hatch.
Downfall is that the oil pump locked up and tore up the timimg belt pretty good, yet there is still some of it left on the engine.
It wasn't to bad when it was running, yet it has sat ever since October. Probably will need engine and tranny rebuilt. He wants $750. Is a project such as this worth $750? I need to know soon. Buddy of mine wants the car, yet I dunno if it would be worth $750, but its better than the $1800 price he had on it earlier. I will try to have pics by monday.

Figure 900 for the block rebuild including labor (at least thats what I paid) 300 or so for the head and around 1200ish for the labor to have it all put back in. Unless of course you do it yourself. Add in timing belt, tensioners, balance shaft belts, new gaskets, water pump and anything else that needs to be replaced or should be while you have the motor out etc etc the price starts getting up there.

So you would pretty much be paying over 3500 total. My suggestion is find one that runs for less than that. The plus side of the whole thing is you will have a motor with 0 miles

Up 2 u. Personally I wouldnt but wouldnt pay a nickel over 500.

The door handle thing may be easy to fix but that would really piss me off having to get in through the hatch of the car . I was pissed when my drivers side window wouldnt roll down to the point I didnt want to drive at all.

that's one way to put it, but it is a pain in the ass. Also, is there any way in hell that it could just be the oil pump and timing belt? The previous owner stated that the car just "died". He said he couldn't hear the sound of valves hitting the pistons, either. But, how unlikely is it that it could just need a new oil pump and timing belt?

Usually if you've run the engine long enough to know you need a new oil pump, you've run the engine long enough for it to never work right (if at all) again.

Well, learned today that the car also has a slight boost leak. About the oil pump, the owner said the car just "died". If the oil pump would have locked up, would that possibly indicate that the engine did, also?

That's what I'll think I'll offer. Engine was rebuilt 50k ago, but more than likely, it will need to be rebuilt again or replaced. I was thinking a 4g63 Cyclone for $1200 at Andrew's Import Performance. Tranny is fine, but the engine is another story. Also, what are some better rebuild kits other than topline? I haven't heard to well about this company.

Thanks, all help is much appreciated. I really wanna bring this car back to life, as it does have potential. Besides, any DSM where I live has way too many miles and isn't worth it, or is way too expensive.
