I picked up an awd talon that has been nothing but problems so far. At first it was in limp mode due to a bad tcu, then it wouldn't shift to 4th because of bad pulse generators.

I replaced the pulse generators with ones out of my 2g, and replaced the tcu with one bought in the classifieds that does in fact provide a code readout. I have dealt with every code.

The problem now is that the car will not shift out of first. The only exception is when I pull the tcu out it goes into limp mode in 3rd. I have pulled the valve body and installed a shift kit with thorough cleaning and replaced the solenoids with ones out of my 2g (cut off the TC lockup solenoid). I've also checked the AT fuse.

At this point I am thoroughly stumped. Any ideas?

Any chance you have the pulse generators switched ? Pulse generator A with the clear tube goes on the end clutch(left), B with the black tube goes to the output gear (top )...

1g and 2g pulse generators have a slightly different plug and after comparing the two I had to flip it and cut the guides off of it to make the right generators go to the right pin. I've tried it both ways though. I may need to try some actual 1g pulse generators but it is hard to find them here.

The other sensors that I'm concerned about are tps and speed. My speedometer works but my understanding is that the 1g does weird things with the speed sensor and this isn't a guarantee that the tcu is seeing a speed signal. I don't have any reason to believe the tps is bad but I'm certain it is improperly adjusted since I rebuilt the throttle body and just put it back approximately where it was.

When I have a bit of time I will try hooking up the solenoids to toggle and verify for certain that this is an electrical control issue.
