1st and 2nd gear grinding with new act 2100

I just installed a new clutch act 2100 and the xact flywheel. When i took it for a test drive it grinded into 1st and 2nd gear. As in I couldnt even get it into those gears. But 3rd, 4th, 5th, and reverse all worked great. I had been having some trouble with 2nd gear before the new clutch, but now it wont even go in at all... My question is.. Could this be a clutch adjustment issue or is my tranny screwed?? Some of my friends belive that the clutch needs to be adjusted for it to engage into gear properly, but I am pretty skeptical and believe that my tranny may need some work done.. Please let me know if any of you have any thoughts or suggestions as I would really appreciate it!!

The clutch should always be adjusted after a new clutch is installed. Did you check the step height on the flywheel before you installed the clutch?

No, I didn't check the step height. I figured the brand new clutch and flywheel would mesh together just fine. Hopefully I'm right... my question is really, can the clutch adjustment issue cause the car to go into all other gears besides 1st and 2nd or is my tranny screwed? I wanna rule out all possibilities.... I still havent adjusted the clutch yet though.
