Just about ready to get the motor all put back together and start it up but I've met yet another obstacle. On my old 7 bolt block there is a flange for a water hose on the left side near the tranny as shown below.

On my new 6 bolt block there is no hole for that flange to screw into nor is there any other holes that are tapped into the water veins within the block. The only possible thing I could find was this hole but it seemed to me to be more like for a bracket of some sort that the 7 bolt didn't use. See pictures below.

If someone could tell me where this flange needs to be bolted on to or whether or not I need to tap some other line or if it's useless on the 6 bolt all together I'd be very grateful. Thanks for reading hopefully one of you can help me out! :dsm:

Don't worry about that line. It is either the turbo feed or the oil cooler feed, I don't remember. The 1g thermostat housing has enough taps for both.

Does there need to be something in that hole on the 3rd and 4th pictures or is it cool to leave it open like that? I don't want water/oil to go flying all over the place upon first start up that'd be quite the waste of 8Gs

Ah i see your problem. You're turbo right? If so, you are running the wrong water pipe. The 1g turbo water pipe faces down (the mouth of it is angled toward the ground), and it has a tap on the bottom of the pipe. You're using a 2g pipe.

Oh, and that hole is fine left open. Feel inside, it doesnt go through the block.

Nevermind I completely spaced the part about the tap at the bottom. Are you referring to the thick main pipe that goes from the pump the the thermostat housing? If so I need to get both the 1g thermostat housing and water pipe what about the small pipe that snakes down below the main waterpipe? I'm also still stumped as to why I would have to when the shop I work with utilizes all the 2g parts...

I also spaced out a bit, if you're using the 2g head, you use the 2g water pipe and thermo housing. I was assuming that you are running a 1g head. My mistake.

As far as the original question, I have no experience with the 2g head 1g block combo, anyone else want to explain where they tapped the water lines?

Ha good thing I decided to check this post on my lunch break I was going to go to Mitsubishi and order a 1g thermo housing and water pipe after work!!! OMG That would've been a nice restocking fee since they NEVER stock what I need...

OK just to clear this up for anyone else that would like to answer my question I am using the 1g block and 2g head!

Thanks alot for your fast responses though dude it's appreciated!

Those holes are for the 1g motor mount bracket. The front motor mount on a 1g bolts to the block not the transmission, and that is why you have those extra holes. :thumb:

DO NOT TAP ANYTHING

Ok here you go. You need to use:
1. 1G Turbo Water Pipe (either from a 90 air to oil cooler, or 91 and up for water cooled oil)
2. 1G Thermostat Housing and Neck with a 1G Thermostat (yes it will fit on your 2G head)
3. 1G Lower Radiater Hose

These should solve all of your problems. If you have further questions look here or PM me. I have the same exact set up your talking about (1G Block and 2G Head).

Am I going crazy? I thought the 1g thermostat housing does not fit the 2g head.

I made a run to my performance shop today and spoke with the builder of my engine. You DO NOT use the 1g thermostat housing and waterpipe for those who are still wondering about this thread you use the stock 2g parts on the 2g head. You use a "T" fitting in the top hose coming from the thermostat housing to the turbo. I'm going to be completing this tomorrow I'll be sure to take and post plenty of pictures so all can see the way I've been told to do this.

The housing definately fits. If you read the link I posted Magnus says the same thing. The 1G head uses studs. The 2G head uses bolts. That's the only difference. The 1G housing has been working fine on my head for over a year now. I'll post some pics in the morning as well just so everyone can see it works.

Well I'm sure you could MAKE it fit, but if you look at the pic I posted, the bolt pattern is not the same. If you were to drill and tap it in the correct spot it would work. Is that what you had to do?

yep, looking at those pictures, reading the replies of people freaking out about misinformation, and never presenting myself with a situation where I needed to use one on the other (tstat on different head)... I still looked and realized, well hot damn, looks like you could just remove those studs and use the tstat housing with bolts...
