I heard from a couple of ppl that the 2g mas with an airfilter on a 1g. Is this 100% true?? can a smaller filter be used instead? Post up pictures of 1g's with 2g mas. Thanks

Ok, if you are asking if you can use a 1g k&n filter on a 2g mas, why? The k&n filter for the 2g is bigger and fits right onto the 2g mas. I may be reading your question wrong though since it's worded weird. :|

Here's a pic of a 2G MAS that was in a 1G car (soon to be in mine). The 2G MAS from the factory does not have a cone filter. The MAS itself is actually bolted onto the air box and then the air box uses a flat slide in filter that the box closes around. If you're starting off with just the MAS then you're going to need a 2G cone filter kit (which is essentially a piece that bolts onto the MAS itself and allows the filter to fit onto it with a wormgear hoseclamp) and the 2G intake hose that goes onto the turbocharger. In order to make all of this work you're also going to have to have a conversion harness, which makes the 2G MAS plug work with the 1G harness, you're going to have to add a fuel pump or something to give it more fuel, and an Apexi SAFC to control all of it.

Mine in the picture has the 2G cone filter adapter, 1G to 2G plug conversion, the 2G MAS itself, and a hard intake pipe that replaces part of the original intake pipe.

sorry let me restate the question. a couple of friends told me that a an air filter will not fit while using a 2gmas on a 1g car. Its this true???

You would either have to purchase a 2G filter to go with that 2G mas or purchase an adapter that would allow a 1G filter to bolt on to a 2G mas.

Something like this from Dejontool:

You're friends are wrong. Many, many people run a 2G MAS on 1G cars. But, in order to do that you're going to need all the things that I listed above in my previous post. Otherwise it will NOT work properly and could damage your engine. The picture above proves it. That intake with the MAS were on a running 1G daily driver for about six months before the owner decided to put the car back to stock for gas mileage reasons.

ok cool thats what i thought cuz i have heard ppl using a 2g mas. I think that what my friends were refering to was the dimentions of the filter would not fit. but if it does then cool!

Just look in the gallery. It's not an uncommon thing. It's pretty easy to do. You just need the plug and mas and usually a safc to make it work right.

YOUR FRIENDS ARE CORRECT!

you cannot fit a 2g mas w/ an air filter on it on a 1g, if you have the stock fmic piping and you are using a 2g intake pipe.

the only way to make it fit on a 1g is to buy a special intake pipe from dejontool or the like.

yea ur right Geoff. I saw a couple in the gallery so i posted it up just to see what other ppl did. Looks like im goin GM maf anyway. LOL. Ill talk to u tomorrow about a chip!
Thanks every one else.
