I posted earlier stating I was thinking about a 2G eclipse, but after talking more with the wife I'm thinking more about getting a 1G. I had a 1.8L that I fell in love with a long time ago. Was the first car I tore my knuckles on, etc. And was the car I was driving when I met and started dating my wife. So we have a soft spot for them.

If I were to go for a 1G eclipse, and was contemplating modding it...again, low 13's..how different would the build be? I live in an area where it doesn't snow, and like I said I'm not going to be drag racing. I actually kinda like having a FWD car as opposed to AWD..less to break ROFL

Are 1G's as heavily endorsed by the aftermarket. If I'm not mistaken, the stock turbo on the older cars is smaller..but that won't affect me much. I also think I read right in saying crack walk is decreased on these older cars.

I've narrowed it down to an eclipse or fox body stang. I'm being pursuaded to the stang for possible resale value and part availability. It'd also be cheaper/easier to make go vroom vroom. Just that the DSM has more meaning to me....also something slightly different, everybody and their mother has a mustang.

You can't escape DSM, just give in :p

The 1g can make a 13 second pass easy. The 1g comes with the bigger turbo which is a 14b. While the 2g get the T-(too tiny)25. So you wouldnt even have to upgrade your stock turbo to meet your goal. An parts are super easy to find because someone is always parting out. 6/92 and below came with a stronger 4g63 which is known as the 6 bolt. Anyhting later comes with a 7 bolt with weaker rods.

1Gs are older so depending on the condition of the car you might want to find a clean one and spend a little more, but they are still cheap. Just check out the classifieds.

Ive gone fwd and awd, and I def say go awd just in case the mod bug bites you later down the line and you start needing some traction for the power your making.
All it takes is about 15lbs, lightflywheel, act 2600clutch, full exhaust, a keydiver tune and on a stock smic and stock 14b turbo with shaft play and I was already spinning tires in 1st gear and chirrping hard into 2nd and 3rd with my fwd.
But yes it is easier and cheaper to work on a fwd model...

In general it would be easier to get low 13's out of an awd, slicks on a fwd may change the story though. You could pull off low 13's with some good driving, fuel and tuning to support 20psi or so on a 14b, and basic bolt ons such as full exhaust etc on a well maintained car. I love 1g's personally, I'm too cheap for a 2g :p Do two 1g's count??

i get the best of both worlds....

i just bought a 2g shell that had a 6 bolt swap in it so all the hard work was done.

just looking for a 6 bolt and then the fun begins.

but if you dont want to do the swap def. go with a 1g.

If its going to be a daily driver I say 2g, I think that they are more comfortable to drive. Fo just somthing to make fast the 1g is a little better starting point. But Its hard for me to give this advice I could not make a decision I have a 90 tsiAWD, a 91 tsiAWD, a 95 GST, and a 86 mustang with a built motor in it too. So I have the best of both worlds :) :rocks: Oh yea I have a gsxr750 too. :)
