Apparently after searching, I found out "Thank God" in time that the jdm tranny's have some issues with the gear ratios. Basically it's a hit and miss game on them too. So i'm kind of looking at steering away from them.

I know a kid here, he works for his dad who owns a huge junk yard, so i was going to pick up a tranny there with low miles.

Are all the 1g AWD tranny's swappable? Is there any problems with switching the transfer cases, the gear ratios, etc.

Might be a dumb question, but i want to be sure before dumping some cash on something and then getting stuck with a piece of crap i can't use.

In addition to the Shifter Cable & Linkage differences between 90 vice 91+... Does the bastard '90 22-Spline Tranny Output vice the '91+ 23-Spline Tranny Output refer to the Front Axle Splines or the Transfer Case Output Splines - or BOTH?

The only Gear ratio differences I know of were Auto vice Manual & that applied to the Rear Ends that came with the Autos also...

So avoid 90's Trannies & Auto Rear Ends. It's very likely that you DON'T have the LSD Rear End being you have ABS - It would be nice to find an LSD 4 Bolt Rear End for your car too. You do have a 91 don't you? I remember the 90 OFH on it.

Like BUCK said, there are differences in the spline count on the center shaft- the one that goes into the transfer case. The front axles are all the same, no worries.

The center shaft is pretty easy to change if you need to. Most older DSM's have significant wear on those splines, so the shaft should be replaced anyway.

with the JDM trannies just get the tranny codes and that will tell you what ones will work or not...
Will work
-----------
C51PH
C50PH---(swithcable AWD/FWD one)
and If it starts with W5 BUT MUST have NP or NQ in it somewhere.
_______________

Wont work
------------
Any WP
Any WQ or W0 not sure what i wrote down LOL.

tis is not saying it will be a direct bolt in... some can come from a 90 so you would have to deal with the linkage BS.
hope this helps!!! noyanusa.com has alot a JDM trannys for 580 shipped and try mitusparts.net for one they are for 550 shipped but rarely answer there phone! LOL
Goodlck!

w5m332 is a turbo awd 5speed tranny
w5m322 is a non turbo galant gsx or expo I think.
f5m332 is turbo fwd
f5m322 is non turbo fwd
this might help some also.

I put a 91' AWD 5sp in my 90' TSI and all I had to swap was the spline shaft.
