It's either the 02 sensor or a trans plug only used by AT's that just sits there... I have a connector that does nothing too.

O2 sensor, mine is already connected. you can see it under the the yellow thing. maybe its for the auto trans. i have a5 speed

the yellow thing used to have vacuum lines attached to it. they controlled emmissions and are not necassary, whoever had the car before you must have removed them.

the blue one by the alternator looks like your oil pressure sendor wire, is it hooked up?

You'll have to explain more where that first one is coming from, I can't really tell which harness it's coming out of.

i've been running without my heat shield for a month or two. nothing wrong with it yet...

The heat shield is there to keep the heat in the exhaust where it belongs. It'll drive just fine I'd think, but the exhaust won't be as hot when it hits the turbo.

First one appears to be cruise control. Second is EGR--it is supposed to have two nipples on it but one appears to be broken off.

Where is the cruise box on a 91? My 90 is located right where that harness is but I know they moved them to the firewall, just not sure when. In your first pic it looks like your throttle cables are running back towards the firewall. If they go into a box then that is where your cruise is.

On a 91, the cruise box is right in the middle of the firewall, right on top, it s a big silver box, under it is the motor for the cruise. Also, there is a little vacuum thing, that is positioned on the drivers side fender, just look where your throttle cables go, and you will find it. Yes, the yellow thing is the vacuum connector for the EGR stuff. With the O2 wire, just make sure it doesn't get caught in anything, like a fan or a belt, or is directly laying on the manifold.

Oil sending unit? isnt that the lil thing in the front? i think that is antoher in the back but its strange..the wire isnt long enough to reach it?

If the guy before you eliminated the vac lines, he probably took out the cruise control as well.

I see two oil light senders, and no pressure sender. Are you doing this work without a manual?

Search "melted fan".

Put a shield on there asap.

ok, i've done the following since i took off my shield.

1) drove to alb (4-5 hour drive)
2) ran 18 times at the strip
3) drove back from alb (4-5 hour drive)
4) drove to lubbock (1 1/2 hour drive)
5) drove back from lubbock (1 1/2 hour drive)

and no signs of anything melting.

i'll put my shield back on after i'm done polishing it tho.

Found this pic searching for Oil Pressure Wire. Ignore the big red arrow. The blue arrow is where your green wire connects and ultimately to the green arrow. The white circled wire is and extension. The sensor should look like the one that the green arrow is pointing too. The end on your green wire and the extension wire are the same. You can run it without the extension, but it will be tight and probably disconnect every once in a while. Mine did. I finally pulled off the extension from my parts car and now am using it. I hope this helps, but, you need to get a pressure sensor instead of a switch, which is there now.

could be the wire going to the sensor on your power steering pump right above the alternator.

my O2 wire and EGT probe wire are ran in that location. I have no heat shields and never had an issue. just make sure you have it wire tied from blowing down on the mani and melting.
