1G Throttle Body Issues

I just got a 1g TB from the junk yard and it looked fine so i cleaned it up and put it on the car. soon after start up it idleed at 2.5 k So i took the TB off again and notice it wasnt closing all the way so i took some of the carbon and metal of the butterfly and put it back in the TB but now i can see a very fine slit of light around one side of the butter fly. Is it normal to have some clearance like this?

Straight and simple answer to your question.."is this normal". NO!. sounds like you took off a little too much of the butterfly plate and now you're getting extra air past the butterfly at idle. You may have to find another TB and reuse the new plate or simply replace the whole TB. If the butterfly plate is out of round, you'll probably never get the thing to run at idle properly.
