I recently purchased a 96 GST and am wrestling with the DSM Gremlins. I have an issue where the Idle starts out fine then eventually keeps rising. It normally goes to around 1500RPMS. Today I stopped and filled up the car. When I restarted it, it shot to 5000RPMS. Usually when this happens (1500-2000) I just pop the hood and tap where the Throttle Cable attaches to the TB. Today, I noticed that the spring seemed extremely loose. I tried to remove the TB completely this past weekend but, could not get the three lines at the top to come off. I have sprayed Autozone Brand WD40 to clean the TB.
I have don e research and cannot really find anything on tightening the spring to see if that helps. Maybe tightening or loosening the Throttle Cable? I do not wish to eliminate my Cruise Control. Any help would be great. I want to try and troubleshoot this before I go into rebuilding or buying a new TB. Any help would be appreciated.
