I'm about 1200 miles on a fresh rebuild its a 1991 eagle talon tsi. I've replaced pretty much every component I can think of, but I was driving down the highway and it just stop running. I pulled over and it would crank over but it wouldn't start. I haven't replaced the fuel pump or filter(the car has 169,000 original miles) so my hope its just a bad fuel filter but I doubt it. Any input would be helpful, thanks.

i would say the fuel filter is a good place to start if it stock... if you doing a tune up and you havnt already go ahead and replace the plugs and wires..

Checked it again today and I'm not sure if my timing belt jumped but it could have. I'm getting fuel and spark to the engine. Im gonna check the timming belt and my fuses.

well when i first got my car it would die like u described and i would have to unhook my battery to get it to start again. mine was alot of little sensors that went out and a few relays were shot.

since it is a fresh rebuild check your timing and also check to make sure none of your little sensor conectors have un done from them selves.

good luck man

Something like that happened to me on my old Talon. My first day with the car and some a-hole didn't tighten the crappy Fram filter enough and blew the o-ring.

I'm sure you've already checked your oil level and looked for catastrophic leaks. I'm sure the last you want to do after a fresh rebuild is check the oil pump, but if you can't find anyting else, it may be worth looking into.

But it sounds like you're trouble shooting all the other usual suspects. Good luck.

Check the fuel pump connector (drivers side under the trunk carpeting) My 1g had a recessed pin in that connector which caused the pump to cut off intermittently. Unhook the connector, check pins, reconnect and give it a try.

first...... check and see if fuel pump powers up when you turn the key on

second..... if fuel pump doesnt turn on, check fuel pump main relay

third....... check for spark

fourth...... no spark? check ignitor/ module for distributor

to check if t-belt teeth are shredded, take off t-belt cover and try to turn car over, cam gears should turn. its possible that your timing belt has weak teeth and shredded off. you dont want to try and start your talon too much because if it is your t-belt you risc bending your valves when you try to start it.

good luck trooble shooting but make sure you dont rush!

Alright, long time since the first post but finally got back to my car during this break. We hooked up a CEL code checker. We had 14, TPS was not set correctly(fixed now) and 31 Knock Sensor(came unplugged at some point is now fixed). We also bought a new ecu which didn't help anything. No more CEL codes are back and car still won't start. Fuel pressure is there, and spark also. My timing belt is still there and working my uncle and dad have looked at it and we have no idea.

I just rebuilt my Talon TSi for the second time in 8 months ( spun rod bearing ) and on the first rebuild I had something similar happen to me. It was the little plug that provides power to the ignition coil. Might check that. I can't remember the name unfortunately of it...anyone??

Power transistor/Igniter.

Did you actually buy a NEW ecu or did you just buy a used one?

Haha makes sense right?? Thanks allwheelTSI.

If you know you have spark on all 4 plugs and you know you are getting fuel into the cylinders, I would think that you are getting air as well but just double or triple check for spark on all 4 plugs and not just fuel pressure but fuel into the cylinders. Possibly check for boost leaks. MAJOR leaks can cause serious issues. And maybe ignition timing? but if it was running before I'm not sure how it would have changed...
