I was thumbing thru the Hawk website and it appears they do not make rear HP+ pads for the 1G at all. :banghead: I am converting the front to Evo rotors and Brembo calipers with HP+ pads and am looking for an equivalent pad to throw in the back.

Things to note: I am not converting the rear to the Evo Brembo setup since I want to retain the e-brake... and I will be using StopTech Power Slot rotors for all 4 corners.

This will not be a daily driven '90 GSX so noise is not an issue (obviously) but stopping is :thumb:

I hear you there. I have not found anything for the rear either. I just went ahead and put on some HPS on the front for now and looking for something that is close to the hp+ for the rear as well. I have the hp+ on my rx8 all the way around and they are awesome. May have to look for another brand, from what I can tell.

EBC has some rear brake pads that may do the trick. I have not used their products before but, they have an assortment that will fit the rear. Hope this helps.

Sucks, I know...

So EBC's been around for a while... anyone know how they rate/compare to the HP+ pads???

I would just get pads that are rated close to the heat range/grab of the hp+. I would have to look at the sites again and get the best price but, I believe it is the green 2000 series but, dont quote me on that. Since the rear does less stopping, it might be best to get one grade lower like one that is similar to the hps.

Fortunately, they have hp+ for my rx8 but, have to look long and hard for some for that talon. Sad thing is, they had some, at the time, for my 95 neon sport but, yet none for my 90 talon. Sucks that I can get hp+ for the neon and not a 1g talon for the rear.

Really as nice as it would be to have matching pads all the way around, it is rather arbitrary. Over 70% of your braking is accomplished by the front pads and rotors. Unless you are into some serious auto-x, an ultra high performance brake pad isn't going to benefit you anymore than a mid-range pad. Kinda like building a high dollar bottom end and only running a 14b turbo on it. My preference of pads is ceramic in the front on slotted, not cross drilled, rotors and semi-metalic in the rear. Reason I choose not to use cross drilled rotors is because many manufacturers do not drill them properly, ie hey drill thru the cooling veins.

I agree to an extent. he did say that this car is not going to be a DD. He didnt say if it was going to be autocrossed or not. If he is going to want to throw around the rear end, as in offroad or autocross racing and basically drift the car around the turns, it is better to have a biased rear braking system.

If he is just wanting to find good stopping brakes that will let him drive home after a race, I would say to use an HP+ equavalent in the back. Although most of the braking is done by the fronts, the rear is important and the brake proportion valve is even more important. It really depends on the application and he was not that clear on that. I am not a big fan of cross drilled rotors at all. Good pads go a long way. If it is all out race and you have the money to burn, I would go carbon on all of it for weight, durability, and reliability, again depending on wallets and application. my .02
