Hello.

I got a problem with a 1G NT AT Tranny Flexplate.

The Flexplate broke. The 3 Tabs that connect to the Torque Converter broke. I replaced it with a new one from the Dealer and I also replace the Bolts and torque everything to specs. I also made sure that every steps were followed as per maintenance manual.

It took only a few weeks for one more Tabs to crack again.

The Engine has no sigh of Crankwalk so I presume that something must be wrong with the Torque Converter or the Tranny itself.

Info: All of the Tranny Bolts were also properly installed and torque to specs. The Tranny Case is not cracked and properly mounted to the Engine. Tranny and Engine Mounts are all good and properly installed and torque.

I have no idea as to what would cause the Flexplate to crack in such a short time.

Any pertinent info would be apreciated.

Could your engine have an out of balance condition?

The Engine is in excelent condition and does not apear to be out of balance. I would be more incline to think the problem reside in the Tranny T/C rather than in the Engine.

That Tranny was removed from a wreck car and was put in the vehicle. It is the proper Tranny for the year and model.

As for welding the Plate to the T/C; not an option...

Any other feedback would be apreciated.

Check the to see if the case of the trans is mated to the engine block correctly . Also try moving the tq with it un bolted to see if there of frount shaft play with the trans . One last thing is the torque converter bushing in the crank of your motor this would cause this problem . It would allow the tq to wobble on the crank .

I actually replaced the Torque Plate about 1 month and a half ago.

I made sure that everything was done as the procedure in the Manual.

The Bushing was present as both shims on either side of the Flex Plate. The Flex Plate was installed with new Bolts, torque to specs. Locktite was also put on the Treads.

The Tranny was properly Bolted to the Engine and I made sure it was properly reinstalled.

I would be led to think the T/C or the Tranny Input shaft might be the cause of this problem.

I just found the problem. It is not mechanicly related but let say thteir is a "human facor" to this mayhem.

The kid has the habit to rev the Engine in Neutral and drop it in Gear... Ever smart!!!

I knew their was something funky about it. My buddy had the Car as a winter beater last year and that thing was running beautifully... OMG

Guess I'll be doing the work for a few buck$$$ and will be sending him up the Local Greasy Tranny Shop if it happends a tird time $$$. He should learn one day...

Tx for the help and lets hope this info is one day helpfull to someone... ;)
