:dsm: I am looking for some pics of the Ksport coilovers for the 1G in the Pro, AR, and RR sets. I wanted to know if the lower strut mount was the same as the D2 coilovers with the two bolts that pinch the casing together holding the coil in place?

Also wanted to know if anyone had any actual road racing experience with them? I road race on JIC Coilovers now and was looking for another set for one of my other DSMs and was curious as to how they perform on the track. I really don't feal like spending money on another set of JICs.

Thanks:dsm:

I literally have 1/2 mile on my set. Just around the neighborhood and they are WORLDS better than the lower springs that I had. I had a Stealth R/T with Eibachs and that was pretty tight. This is pretty damn sweet. Now I wish that my steering ratio was a bit quicker. A smaller steering wheel would help that.

The install is exactly as you described it. Just as stock or other coilovers.

Bringing this thread back, i'd like to hear some more feedback on these. Im looking into picking up a set.

I know this topic has been addressed i'v esearched and read a little bit, but found little technical information. ksport offers a few different types of coilover setups. specificly im looking for a kit for my 1g FWD daily, its more of a street car. I was considering a koni/GC or sleeve type setup, but i really just want to buy something and bolt it on this car rather than cut the stock shock slip the front insert in.... trim the spring perch, etc etc...

Got em, Love em. They are alot more stiff than the Eibach's I had on before. I really like the ability to harden and soften the strut up top and you can really feel the difference. Make sure you measure each so you install them at the same height.

The collar tool are kind of a pain in the ass. Make sure you hammer them to keep them in position, they have a tendency to come loose.

Overall, money well spent. I love them

Friend of mine has K-sports on his Hyundai Elantra (same suspension as Tiburon) and he's blown 3 shocks autox'ing it this year. They replaced one for him, but he's screwed on the other 2 they've told him. Entire setup is less than a year old.

One partial summer and a track weekend on my RR's with custom rate springs, and they work great on the track.

The potholed, frost-heaved ghetto streets around here are another story. :notgood:

Mavisky:
Dont you have GC coilovers? Would you recommend GC over a koni/megan/d2? Everyone reads how good these ksport`s ride but you dont hear anything about them a year later. Im looking for a coilover setup thats gonna last and considering the price for a set of GC with agx`s or koni`s (and the warranty)why go with ksport. Would you recommend koni`s or agx`s? Street car with weekend drag time and maybe? some future autox. Thanks
A.J. Ill have to post up some pics I got of you car at the shootout reschedule. Car looks sick!

My coilovers are a currently one-off pre-production setup from Disturbed Racing that consist of Hypercoil springs, custom threaded coilover sleeves, and Koni Yellow adjustable shocks with Beta stage caster and camber plates up front.

To be honest I'd be hard pressed to ever reccomend the AGX's after driving with the Koni's but everyone's budgets are different and they will give you better results than just the GR2's. The Koni's ride better with much larger spring rates than the AGX's ever did, while at the same time doing a much better job of keeping the tire on the road.

The big problem with AGX's (and some other shocks) is that the compression and rebound damping is way too stiff for any reasonable spring rate setup. Now with those big springs on the car they make work well, but only for a small time before they overheat and begin to cavitate which has them back to handling worse than they did with the lighter springs. They're just not a great shock absorber. Does this mean they won't work and you can't go fast? Hell no. Does it mean you could probably go faster with the Koni yellow on instead? Most definitely. The question is how much are you willing to spend to gain that extra tenth on your launch or extra second or two on the course? If it's not worth the cost increase then stick with the AGX's and it will still feel better than the car ever did stock.

Too many of these Korean and Chinese shocks are coming out with "36 adjustments", "fully threaded bodies to slam your ride", and "custom spec'ed rates for racing". But how much real testing has gone into them?

Don't be afraid to settle for what the fast guys are running. There's a reason that when you go to the road course you'll see alot of the same names on the sides of people's cars. Those parts just work. There are plenty of people who've taken a right turn away from the normal path thinking they've found the new secret trick to that last tenth or two only to come right back to what everyone else is running once they find out the hype far outweighs reality. I took one look at what the top guys were running (as did Jason at Disturbed Racing) and that's why he built me this setup I'm on. Koni and Hypercoil are two of the most highly respected names in racing that won't be setting you back ALMS style money. And with the amazing support of Koni race shops all over the country I can even send these shocks out to be custom valved to my exact specs down the road if I want to. Something you'll never be able to do with the K-Sports or AGX's.

I've seen multiple K-Sports fail within 1 year of racing, and that's enough for me to steer clear of them. Let someone with deep pockets do the testing since it's obvious that the manufacturer isn't, save your money for a proven setup. Contact Elvenhome21 on here to see what he can work out for you.

Guilty as charged, sort of, I do have a plan however.:sneaky:

The short life expectancy bugs me a little, I don't find myself on the racetrack as often as I'd like, so these may hopefully last for next season, at least.

Thanks fr the fast reply mavisky! Thats which way I was leaning too. With the warranties that koni and Gc offer (eibach springs) I dont think I or anyone can go wrong. Wish we could still get the chamber plates but theirs other options. What would u recommend for chamber kits?

RRE has the best add on units currently in production. Get the caster / camber plates as dsm's really need the added caster.

I don't road race or autox, but I have Ksports on my 1g and LOVE them. Going from pro-kits/AGX's to ksports... It was a very nice improvement. I do drag a lot, and the car launches EXTREMELY flat vs. sqauting like crazy. I'd like to get into autocross next year so we'll see.

Definately recommend for a cheaper suspension setup. Can't be beat IMO

I had K-Sports on my 89 Mazda MX-6 GT Turbo 4WS. 1st front strut blew in the first 100 miles during a mountain run in SD, the other front blew 200 miles later. I then blew a rear one also a 1000 miles or so later. That was enough for me with the K-Sports. Too much downtime. I then sold them.

The Apexi's seem to have a good rep so I have been keeping my eye on the Megan's but I am not sure yet. I would love the Konis with GC's but then I am minus new top mounts and a have a little bigger hole in my pocket. I would also have to find OEM fronts for the Koni inserts as I have GR-2s at the moment. I am still very undecided and have been reeding various posts. Really seems like I will end up with Konis and GC's in the end

I dont understand the expensive part? Extremepsi.com for koni struts. ebay or madacar for the Gc coils.

150 for the rear struts
175 for the fronts
375 for the coils
$700
All that comes to the same price (actually less) as the ksports/d2/megan

That's 150 per for the rear and 175 per for the fronts, putting you at $650 before the springs. Their website states that they are ordered in pairs, meaning that you have to order 2 at the price listed for each strut, not that you're getting 2 for that price.

Either way it's still worth the money difference.

OK bringing this up again, I have a popped front driver coilover. I had it on for about 2 months. With moderate driving. No drag racing/auto cross. All i did was go to mountain roads once in a while about 4-5 times and take some good right turns and 1 pooped. I still have to tell ksport about them. However they were very much worth the money because i know i abused them. LOL

Im in the market for a new suspension, and from what i have read on this thread, the konis would be the why to go, but from what i know Koni dosnt make a coilover setup for the 1g awd's. so i have bin looking in to the Ksports pro coilovers. ive heard great reviews about them, but on the other hand i read this thread and there are a couple people saying that they blow out prematurely and is not the path to take. i have 980 bucks to spend and i would like to spend it wisely. even with some disappointments in the Ksports people still love them so i think ill go with them. unless anyother people some suggestions.

Depends alot on what you are going to be doing with you car. Autocross? DD? Drag?

I would say the K sport are good just for show. If you want to drop the car and are not going to seriously race with it. Then the K sport will be ok.
