This may seem like a stupid question, but I just bought a 1g after previously owning a 2g and I'm not exactly sure if the intake is the same. I know the 2g doesn't fit on and I know the 2g has a different MAS sensor, but does the 1g have one at all? I haven't found very many places that sell 1g intake pipes so are they that important to replace? I'm just wondering if I should just get a k&n filter or try and find a pipe as well. Thanks.

Yea if its the non turbo you can get the intake from a lot of places, just depends on how much you wanna spend, i got an injen technology intake from sounddomain.com for around 170, its a very nice intake and worth the money, i dont think anything from the two cars would be interchangeable, but i could be wrong, later.

yes, 1g's have a mas. its kinda hidden in there with the intake cone.

aside from being terribly expensive, intake pipes have never really given much power. i just dont understand the fixation most dsm'rs have with replacing them. i believe the injen intake pipe on a 2g has shown to give +1hp and -1tq. im sure an intake pipe on a 1g would do about the same thing.

either way, the cone is a great thing to replace. i suggest you dont bother with the pipe, put a k/n cone on, and move on to mod elsewhere.

good luck and have fun with that 1g. :thumb:

I'm still kind of confused, if I get an intake pipe and filter then where exactly would the mas be, I know it's inbetween the two in a second gen and I don't see how it could be any different in a first gen. Would it be worth it to get an intake with a second gen mas? Would there be any extra work I would have to do to get it to work on a 1g or would it work by just plugging it in? Thanks.

I disagee. I bought a 1g turbo intake pipe from dsmparts.com and noticed a world of diference in the performance! It also sounds alot cooler when the turbo spools.

If you buy a KaN air filter it just plops right in the intake box. You do have a 1g turbo, right?

I made my intake out of PVC piping on my 90 TSi, it works well, i used a K&N filter and i was able to remove the air-box bc the PVC piping is strong enough to hold the filter up

is there a way to take off the mass air flow sensor..?? ive unpluged it and car dosnt run right is there nething that i can replace it with??

i know that i need it ... do they make a different one that dosnt have the honey comb sensors?? because i want to put on a short ram air intake on

I'm not sure if the Maf translator will work with your ecu or not since your nt but I'd say thats your best best as far as removing the honeycombs. Although I don't think you would need to get rid of it if you got a kit that was made for your car.

ok .. im just looking for a better sensor because the honey comb one restricts air flow .. not much but some .. :dsm:
