I have the opportunity to purchase a 3" turbo back exhaust, including o2 housing, for $250 for my 1g awd. The guy didn't make it clear in the post or in our conversation over the phone, but I think he said it was for a fwd but the only difference between awd and fwd exhausts are in the hangers. I emailed him and I hope he can clarify on this, but in the mean time, can anyone tell me if this is true? Are an awd and fwd system the same except for the hangers? the pics he sent do suggest this, but If anyone else could clarify, please do.

Thanks,

Greg Heineken :talon:

The downpipes are similar enough, but the catback is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT! Not even close.

Take it from a guy who has a 1G FWD and a 1G AWD.

show us some pics and we can tell if it is a fwd or awd.. the FWD and AWD systems after the test pipe are way different.

fwd exhaust systems run over the rear axle, where as awd systems run underneath it

i know the cat back part is completely different but i think the DPs are different too. i mean why would all these places sell DPs for fwd and awd seperately.

Yes DP's are different, but they're close. I have an AWD DP on my FWD because I got a really good deal on it used and I know how to make stuff work for me. I'm not sure how well the FWD DP would fit on the AWD since the FWD DP is slightly shorter and has a different curve to it. The FWD DP goes straight down the center of the tunnel, while the AWD DP has to run alongside the driveshaft. So a FWD DP on an AWD might hit the driveshaft, or there might be enough flex in the flex section to move it over.

The DP hanger is completely different, I don't use it anyway because I have all the other hangers in place, including the hanger that connects the block to the front of the DP.

I guess what it all boils down to is this; do you want a no-hassle bolt on DP, or are you capable and creative enough to make it fit?
