I just searched through a couple threads and didn't find what I'm looking for. Has anyone ever put a 1g turbo harness (engine) into a 2g shell, and using a 1g ECU and 6 bolt engine with everything in the car working correctly?

There is a 2g shell for sale close by for practically nothing. The owner took the engine, trans, wiring harness, and ecu to put into another 2g. This car is a fwd and the one he is getting is an AWD apparently. I have a spare 91 tsi fwd with a bent frame. I was wondering what all would be involved in putting my 1g wiring harness and ecu into the car. I know the 1g's and 2g's have different ECU pinouts and sensors, so I was thinking I could just get my 1g harness and put in into the 2g shell. I can get a 2g fwd trans if needed. I'm just wondering how hard it would be to install the 1g harness and hook up the wiring inside the cabin. For the ignition and so forth...

i have striped a 2g gst down do a shell before and it was a PITA. im assuming he just took the engine harness right... so you would have to mate the 1g inner harness with the 2g engine harness and i dnt think that will work out too well

yeah i dont think so either. u would be better off finding a 2g harness. i actually have a 2g engine harness i did cut a couple of plugs off though i think i just took the reverse tranny plug and water temp sensor and its wired for a black top CAS

I may consider it. I'm really hoping to find out if it's worth while to even pick up the car. I don't have an ecu or wiring harness for a 2g.
