So I have a JDM 7bolt. Had an internal CAS Im assuming (we'll go with that) like the 96 has? I think...:hmm: anyways i got a blacktop from a junk yard, threw it on end of the cam and made a harness to fit my harness according to RRE. Now i get random misfire codes.
If i get link will this fix that?
And is the harness Magnus has just for looks?

Link will make you able to invert the signal. Many people choose this when they do 1g swaps with 2g wiring i believe, correct me if im wrong. As far as the misfire, I'd follow vfaq to make sure you grounded out the right wire and set the base timing at the desired amount. If all of that was followed then your base timing should be set correctly.

Did it just start to do this after the install of the new cas?

Yes, i have had the motor for a year now, with the CAS. It runs fine, EXCEPT when it throws the code. Seems to be mostly when it is rainy.... Then it really does misfire after the code is thrown. As far as the pin on the firewall, I cannot find this pin, there is a blue and black one when i ground them out it cuts my motor out.. I dont think that is the right one.. And as i said, according to everything it is in time.. just this wacky code that RRE said it would have.. I just want to know how to fix it...:barf:
Now, when you say invert signal..... what does this mean?

i've heard of people unplugging the tps to get rid of this code when using an actual cas.

Well, Our 97-99's do NOT have a grounding pin on the firewall.

Therefore, without dsmlink, or some other thing that grounds your ECU,

you CANNOT set your timing with just a Timing light, because you cant get your car to Base at idle (5*)

So to set your timing with just a timing light, at idle, use a logger to see what your timing is (it will be jumpy but its usually 8*)....

Personally, when i time a 97-99 with a 1G Cas, I just point the gun, set it to 8* at normal idle, and get the cash, and go.

To fix the CEL you get from the 1G cas, go to radioshack and find a 5K potentiometer/ volume knob, put it inline with the Barometric Sensor wire off the ECU and drive around turning the knob, and see if it eventually goes off. It will if its set right.

Doing this will also lean your car out a bit, it *could* actually lean you out too much. but hey, its a fix

Thanks for the input guys...
I do have a 98 ECU, I think the motor is a 96 because it had the CAS plug next to the crank angle plug.. (it was inside the cam plastic housing) I also came to the conclusion that I could not ground because it shut the motor down everytime I tried it:D

Snowborder714, is the harness just cosmetic? or does it conduct signal better than a soldered harness I made? Also, what is this cheaper method to speak of for the 98 ecu? Im looking for a cost effective way to manage but I dont want to jerry rig it and have it blow up in my face! Murphy's Law applies to me all the time..:ohdamn:
