1g cas + 2g crank sensor = no more Random Misfires on my 95?

I did a 6bolt headswap on my 2G with a 1g cas (1990) and I've been plauged with the Random Misfire code when cruising at >3000rpms. It seems that many 95's and even some of the later models don't respond well to the Potentimeter trick magnus recommends (which I have done with the base idle set at 5° and still no luck). I know of the other tricks such as removing the TPS or just cutting the TPS signal wire, but I really don't like driving around with a CEL light just to fix another problem, nor do I wish to spend money on DSMLink at the moment.

I've overheard that if you still have the 2g bottom, you can run your crank sensor in conjunction with the 1g cas to preven the Random Misfires from coming. Can anyone verify this before I pull her apart again? If this is so, what would the base idle be set at? 5° or back to the 10°?

thanks,

honestly man im not sure if that would work....but then again i havent ever read anything about being able to get away with what your talking about. Im suprised the pot. fix didnt help but like you said ive heard many people talk about it not working for them also. I myself have only had the random missfire about a handful of times without the fix since the car has been up and running. I myself wouldnt mess with the tps for fear that i would cause more problems, only thing i can suggest is save up for a while and pick up dsmlink(which im gonna do).

Thanks man. I've tried it and sure enough, it worked! So for anyone doing only a 1g headswap on their 2g, MAKE SURE you keep you crank sensor to prevent the random misfires. :thumb: And if you have the money/experience to do a complete 6bolt swap, then Dsmlink is the way to go for you! Now I have to figure out what Base timing to set since I'm using a 1g Cas with a 2g Cranksensor.
