1g auto seat belt upgrade

Just curious who has gotten rid of the awful automatic strangulation seat belts and what kind of setup did u go with? I installed some recaro bucket seats with the cut outs through the back so I can do a harness with a cross bar in the back. The original seats had the lap belt installed on them so now all I have is the auto belt. I'm not worried about the back seat, cause only a 5yr old can actually sit back there

You can install 2g seatbelts in the 1g. It actually bolts into stock location. I just got done doing this after putting in a 8pt roll bar and Corbeau seats. I'll be using the 2g belts on the streets and 5 point harness at the track.

If you want a clean interior, find one of our Candaian friends. These cars didn't have auto seat belts in Canada so all of the interior panels and belts/mounts are available.

Edit: I would like to add that these seatbelts obviously didn't pass U.S. crash standards so installation could be deadly or cause legal issues in the future.

Nice I didn't even know! I would like to eliminate the whole motorized whatever it is in the pillar. Does anyone have a picture of their harness setup?

It's not that the Canadian seat belts failed to pass the US crash standards. The requirement at the time was that cars had to have either an air bag or other automatic restraint system. Canada didn't update that law until a few years later.

However, I would advise everyone to try a 2g belt instead of Canadian 1g belts. The internal springs of Canadian belts are flawed and come apart, causing them to not retract completely.

Nice guys. Yeah harnesses would be over kill for a daily driver. I'll look into the 2g setup for sure. Any other ideas ?
