my altenator is shot my car died slowly last night and the battery wont hold a charge so i had to buy a new battery but its still only running 12 volts and all my accessories work slow as hell especially my windshield wipers.....my question is could there be any other problem besides the altenator? is there any specific way i can check to make sure the altenator is working or not and also if this is the problem how hard is it to swap out the altenator for a new one? PLEASE HELP!!!

Check all your fuses. Make sure the belt is tight and on the alternator. If you have all these things and they check good, it's likely the alternator.

If you think the alternator is hard, you'll simply love the timing belt. ;o)

checked all the fuses and the belt already which was replaced about 3k miles ago...what do you mean? is changing the altenator going to be a huge pain in the ass to change or are you being sarcastic?

With the car runing check the positive post on the alternator with a volt meter. Should be over 13 volts. If not replace alt.

Changing the alt. is not that bad.

Good luck.

P.S.-make sure your alt. belt is tight.

check the fuseable link between the alternator and the battery

Usually if that goes, so does everything electrical in the car...No seatbelts, no lights, no nothin' ;)

But to answer the question at hand...The problem is likely your alternator. I am battling a similar problem myself, and need to remove the alternator tonight or tomorrow to get it replaced under warranty. It's not that hard to remove if I remember correctly, but if I run into any problems I will let you know :)

when that goes the alternator doesn't charge the battery, all the electrical accessories work just off the battery till it dies.

I had this problem, I replaced the alternator then I realized it was the fuseable link.
