Ok first off, my car is a 96 gst bone stock. I borrowed my buddies bov for night to see if I wanted to buy it. The car ran fine and all of a sudden it started to run like compleate crap. And I was driving it just to make it home and it would run like normal, but as soon as I would give it gas it would run bad agian. Got it home, running fine put it into park reved it up to about 3k and instantly it would run bad. It's like when u have no gas in the car and give it gas and it just putters along. To me it feels like it's not geting enough gas. The car only has 104k on it, could it be a fuel pump or injectors? Any help would be great thanks

my bet is that u have a boost leak...check for leaks around the BOV...what kind of BOV is it?

Check the couplers and hoses on the piping!

It's a greddy. I checked all the hoses and they seem tight. The bov is off a vr4 if that makes a difference. Could a boost leak cause it to run good then run bad?

yes a boost leak can cause that...look at everything! Start at the throttle body and follow the piping to the intercooler and then from the intercooler to the turbo...check you BCS lines...

I had this happen to me numerous times, nothing to worry about if your not driving it, just find the leak and fix...another question...is you BOV recirculated? Rubber hose from BOV to intake?

I had it go to the atmosphere and it would kinda bog down and die and wouldn't want to start back up untill I put the hose back on it and she would fire up and run fine for awhile then give it gas and it would run crappy. Then get to a compleate stop and she would run just fine.

Sorry for the noob question, but what is BCS?

I just cleaned the maf today with maf cleaner. There already was a gasket on the bov. And how do I do a boost leak test? Oh and I don't know if this helps but my vacuum guage( stock boost guage) will work sometimes and other times it won't.

Yes I was kind of smashing on it. Once and awhile it would blow compleatly off. My friend told me that I was over boosting. But I don't know how or what that is. I don't have a boost controller.

So you don't know how much boost you are running. You might of over boosted and blown something. That is why there is an upgrade path for these vehicles. One of the first things suggested is getting an after market boost gauge. Have you try to run it with the original bov?

No not yet my stock one is at work. I was thinking about puting it back on and see what it does. It's not the stock turbo either. When I bought it from the kid he said it was a t28. I picked the car up with a bad turbo and this was the only turbo that I could find. I don't have much cash so would a boost guage from autozone work, you know the $25 ones? Or should I just wait and save up for a real good one?

You can find some brand name ones online and you might find them cheap. that is how I got my first one (Auto Meter). Check Craigslist or even Ebay. You might even find them here in the classifieds .Try to get one with vacuum and boost readings.

LOL just about all boost gauges i ever seen have vacuum and boost readings:thumb:

I went and bought a cheap boost guage for now so I can see what's going on, and I was running 15lbs of boost!! But I don't know y or how I could be running that much when all I did was put a different bov on and I don't have a boost controller

Harbor Freight sells one that is pretty cheap and let's you select the back color via button. It's like 19.99.

You were running 15 lbs, because a real Evo III 16g has a WGA that is set to 1 Bar, (14.5 PSI).

What do you meen? Unless the boost guage was off but when I would hammer on it she would go right up there and bog down

dude, check your spark plugs... gap them to .028 inches or replace if needed, check your MAF electrical harness is plugged in all the way, check all hoses are attached and fittings are tight. Get a boost controller and turn it down to 13-14psi until you have the supporting mods.

Are any CEL's showing up on the dash. If he ran vented to atmosphere for a bit is it a possibility that the ecu went to limp mode from misfire or anything?

Yea I have a couple of cels one is for mulitple misfire, I know that is the spark plugs and the other is insuffecent coolant temp. It's just a t28 turbo that's all I know about it
