what year of 3000gt sl do i need to get calipers off of for them to bolt up to a 90gsx. or do i have to use 2g gsx calipers? I did some looking and searching and couldn't tell for sure exactly what the deal was. any advice or experience would be much appreciated.

300GT SL, Galant etc. have the twin piston calipers. You just have to watch out what year they came from because the newer years are not screw on.

there is a pair of SL calipers on ebay from a 98 that have screw in lines according to the picture, is that all there is to worry about? they have a ton of em i guess.:idontknow:

I love how this always gets mixed up. LOL

-The 90-99 3000gt non turbo dual piston calipers are what you want to use on a 1g. They use the same thread in style brake hoses as what the 1gs use.

-The 2g dual piston calipers use a banjo bolt style brake hose setup. These calipers can be used but you will have a problem getting brake hoses for them. Road Race Engineering sells the hoses that you would need in order to use the banjo bolt style calipers on a 1g.

Other than the two diferent brake hose configurations that they each use the calipers and caliper brackets are identical when comparing the 2g style to the 3000gt style.

So yes the 98 SL calipers that you are looking at on ebay will work for your 90 GSX. :thumb:

Ok. Thanks for the help so far. I have one last question on this subject. I ordered a set of 2g calipers and brackets for my 90. Do i need to order 2g rotors or can i order a set of 1g drilled and slotted and be fine. Thanks for the time to help out a newb, im sure one of these days ill have some useful info to pass on myself. My area of expertise is engine building, i was never a big fan of suspension.

The important thing is to remember to get the rotors for the dual piston caliper brake system, which came on the 93-99 AWD DSMs and the 90-99 non turbo 3000gt. Those vehicles use the larger rotors that you will need for the swap, and they all use the same exact front rotor so there is no guess work on which one to get. :thumb:

Huh I didn't know the 3000GT N/T and the 2Gs are the same. Damn I passed one at the neighborhood junkyard. Oh well I'll get it next week.

ok 1 more question. the rear discs are solid, are they vented on the 2g's and if so can i swap 2g rear calipers in so i can run vented discs in the back?

No not all of the 2Gs came with vented rear rotors. Only some of the early 95 AWDs came with vented rear rotors. Even if you did find a complete set for one of those setups you don't want to attempt to use a 2g rear brake system on a 1g. The 1g and 2g both use completely different style assemblies for the rear brakes and they are not interchangeable. There are far easier ways of upgrading the rear brakes. :thumb:

so basically stick with the solid read rotors then, or is there a common upgrade for the 1ga rear brake system.

If it were me upgrading my rear brakes I would do it the simple but effective way. I would get a good set of pads, some braided brake hoses, and some slotted rotors. All three of those will improve how well the brakes will work along with how they feel. :thumb:

oh ok. perfect that is what i was thinking. I am stilla newb with these cars so i wasnt sure if i missed an obvious upgrade or if you were referring to normal upgrades. Once again thanks for the help and guidance.

I am working on a dual piston rear brake upgrade for the 1g I will do a write up when it is done. But it wont be a cheap one since i wont be using a cable driven emergeny brake anymore.
