1998 Ford Ranger XLT M/T

High mileage with imperfections. Hauls parts and scrap. The true work horse.

Went ahead and replaced the differential gasket. Of course fresh fluid and I decided to spray some paint after the job was done. One less leak to worry about.

Got the truck cleaned up real nice. Also changed the transmission fluid and engine oil. Someone used gear oil, while it calls for synthetic Motorcraft ATF so I filled it properly. The maintenance checklist is dwindling down and the thing looks great. The pictures always give extra credit, but that 1998 paint job has really held up. Occasional wash and wax keeps it shiny! It doesn't need much besides exhaust work and a fuel filter (original). I cannot complain one bit for a $2,000 truck. I've already hauled 4 loads of scrap metal and hauled a bunch of lawn equipment with it!

I'm not much of a Ford guy, but this practical 5 speed has found a place in my heart. It's another one that I'll hate to get rid of if/when I have to.

Got 4 new tires since the others were 9 years old. Also replaced the serpentine belt and idler pulley. Those bearings were loudly asking for a replacement. I was amazed to see an original Ford pulley with 210k on the odometer.

Seeing the metal worn down on that pulley shows that it served it's purpose for a long time.

211,900 miles. Alternator gave up on the interstate. Luckily a nearby Napa had an alternator in stock, so I didn't have to pay $300 for a tow I was a good ways from home. I can say, wrenching on the shoulder isn't something that I've missed. It's very loud/distracting and nobody slows down while you're entering/exiting the vehicle. I was going to have it towed home for those reasons, but when I was told $300 I then went for a walk and pulled out the tool kit. I forgot to get the tow insurance for this one apparently. I'll be adding it on now.
