I just put a deposit on this fine automobile,1992 6bolt 4 bolt rear needs valve stem seals. 112,000 miles I pick it up this weekend. Can’t wait to start wrenching on it. Don’t know if I am going to restore it to stock or put my FP3065 on it. Let me know what you think.

I got around to starting to strip down the motor for a refresh. So far I can’t find any evidence that this motor has ever been taken apart. I was told that it needed valve stem seals. My plan is to reseal with new rod and main bearings, hone and re-ring. I plan on using Fel-Pro upper and lower gasket sets. ACL alumaglide bearings and Hastings rings with new OEM timing components and a Gates racing timing/balance belt. I am hoping that the front case/oil pump is reusable (I will check it once it is off the block) it feels good no side to side or in and out play on the input shaft and I can feel just the slightest backlash on the gears. I will be taking apart the short block today. Hopefully no surprises down there. If someone can take a look at the bores in the pictures and determine the likely hood of getting away with just a hone. There is a bit of polish/shininess on the thrust side of the bore but I can still see the crosshatching through out the bore. No scratches that I can feel with my fingernail. I will measure them but they look really good to me.

So I cleaned off the serial#/vin on the motor and found out this 6bolt is not the original one from the car. This one is from a 90. As soon as I saw that I removed the front case and cracked it open. Yay straight cut gears. The pump looks not bad, I am going to measure it but nothing is telling me it’s junk yet.

I took the motor fully apart today and found a bit of an issue with the rear main seal. The seal was folded with the spring hanging out. This leads me to believe that the seal was replaced at some point. I don’t think this would have happened from the factory. I will see what brand the seal is when I take it out.
