1991 GSXAWD Autotransmission Upgrades

Hey everyone, I just dropped my auto trans in my 1991 GSX and removed a bunch of misc stuff. Getting ready to prep it for paint and rust removal.

I don't really know much about transmissions in general, I've been convinced to keep my auto transmission . Just wondering what kind of internal upgrades I can do without help (or with, just keep it cheap) on my auto trans to be able to hold more abuse. I'm going to buy a service manual so I can be aware of the assembly of the trans, I also have a spare auto to be dissected to learn about the guts.

So yeah, any advice on what I could upgrade? I hear auto trans can take a considerable amount of power and remain reliable being close to stock.

Hi-Stall torque converter would be nice. and you can get clutch and brake kits. All an auto tranny is basically a planetary gear system and a somewhat annoyingly complex clutch and brake system. When trannys shift hard or slip. Its the brakes and clutches going bad. Best find someone who has an auto drag build. Those trannys are beast.

I did some searching some hi-stall torque converters. Some range from a measly 100 bucks to $1,200.

What do you recommend? Anything in particular I should stay away from?

IPT high stall converter seems to be the recommended among dsmtuners
