I have searched this forum and only come up so far with one thread on the 1990 FIAV. I now know the differences between the FIAV's, but don't seem to be able to find anyone who has actually done the blockoff or mod' for the 1990.

So, I'm in the middle of replacing the TB shaft seals and would like to get rid of the coolant lines as you'll all agree they're a PITA.

Anyway, before I go and stick these back on, has anyone done the blockoff for the 1990 TB's and what are the pro's and cons if any??

Thanks:thumb:

i did min on a 92 TB. all i did was pop out the freeze plug and screw the FIAV all the way in. capped the coolant lines and called it a day.

So, I take it that most of us are considering this a good mod? Albeit not a performance mod really but it simplifies things...and seriously, as far as the 4g63t goes: the simpler and less unnecessary crap, the better.

performance? it may help lower your intake temps but probably not much and if you go with a n/a tb it is a couple mm bigger but nothing huge! So maybe a very very very small gain. The main reason i did it was to get rid of alot of problems the fiav causes. The car has never idled as smooth as it does now and it cleans things up allot. Anytime i can get rid of extra hoses and wiring connections im all for it

Well that's almost exactly what I was on about ha ha. But, do you or anyone else have a photo step by step per the 90 model? Id like to see a few examples. I planned on just making a plate at work since I have access to tons of scrap stainless steel...buuuut, I do want to see a few more jb weld jobs etc

I'm on the road, right now, but will be home Thursday. I'll try and put together a few pic's of the Tb and it's pieces. I haven't seen too many pic's of the process, BUT, I do know that there is quite a difference between the 90 and the rest of the world, when it comes to TB's. So unless I'm doing something really wrong or wacky, the 90 is pretty simple and doesn't really call for making or fabricating a block off plate. Just blocking off the one port, that everyone does. I just went a few extra steps, because I was already in there pulling the non essentials out and wanted to guarantee NO leaks.

As for the power gains, I know this mod is virtually all about cleaning up the TB and removing potential coolant leaks and this is why I've done this.

Like I said, I'll post some pic's Thursday.

Well cut off all the vacuum nipples and sealed them off. Cut off the coolant nipples and sealed them off and filled the FIAV ports and pulled the FIAV valve out. Hopefully I'll have NO leaks and no chance of coolant leaks.:hellyeah:

Here's a pic of the end work.
