1990 Eprom Ecu...

My friend has a 1990 Laser. He has a non eprom ECU in his car currently. Tonight we decided to put my ECU which has stage 3 mods from Jeff at www.dsmchips.com I have 650cc injectors in my car and he has 660's. With my ECU in his car, as soon as he started up his car, it stumbled and sputtered at low rpms. It threw an 'ignition coil' code according to his pocketlogger. Cylinders 1 and 4 weren't firing. As soon as he put his computer back in though, it fired right up and ran fine. Any explanations for this?

does your car run or did you just get the ecu out and give it to him. i had a 90 and i replaced the coil pack and some other things. turned out to be the ecu. when you hit it on the side it would run right. it was weird.

My car runs fine with the ECU. Weird things was yesterday when I put in my injectors it threw a code for a "coil pack"... Kinda odd since mine is not even 2 yrs old! So I'm ignoring it

Definitely a strange occurance. It is my car that won't run correctly with his ECU. They are both 1990 model FWD turbo. our cars both run fine with our own ECU's, but switching his ECU to my car resulted in the check engine light and only 2 cylinders operating. We didnt try my ECU in his car but when we swapped his ECU back to his car everything worked fine. Strange. His car has a build date of Dec 89 and mine is Sep 89 if that matters but I dont see how it could.

I did swap coil packs a few months back off a spare intake manifold I have. I believe it is a 90 coil pack, everything was identical to the one I removed. Any other suggestions as to why his ECU won't work in my car? I would really like to get one if I can get it to work.
