how tight do these usually have to be?

i had my turbine housing off a few times and finally finished my 16g project but wasnt quiet sure how tight to clamp them together?

I was checking all around after the install, no leaks anywhere but there was a bit of oil on the clamp bolt and bit of burnt oil around the clamp area, not sure if that is from oil dripping when i was checking oil or something or the clamp not being tight enough

Use a 1/4" rachet and a 10mm socket and tightenit down. it needs to be tight to seal the 2 halves of the turbo but not to tight were you are bending the clamp.

i tightened it again with a 10mm

i dont know where the oil is forming from, its still fresh looking on the clamp bolt but thats the only spot, its not coming from the oil return nor is it coming from the top feed, kinda weird, just araound the clamp bolt....

and in some parts of the clamp it looks a like a bit of oil burnt on but thats about it, kinda weird, it was a brand new turbo from FP, maybe its just the initial settling, i wiped it dry and i'll check back tomorow to see if it continues to form oil there

when the turbo is cool clean the area with brake clean. The oil is most likely the from the assembly of the turbo. I woulnt wory about it.

is it maybe oil backing into the turbo and coming through the seals?

I had a problem on my old car where the oil return wasnt big enough and it would get backed up

the gasket i got from RRE i think was smaller diameter then the oil return, not sure if it was smaller then the turbo or not though, i dont know why they dont make them match so it doesnt cause a restriction....

hmmm.....i dont want a blown turbo, i would be so pissed, i've been working on this project for a week now

Hey dont feel to bad I have my motor out. I wont be driving my car for the rest of the summer probably :( but when its done it will be a what I wanted (12 second street car driven year round).
