I am going to join the Airforce, and I will get about a 15 thousand dollar sign on bonus. I want to buy a 1g talon, and plan on putting a 2.3 stroker in. I will probly go with a talon w/ broken down engine, so to spend less money. Wondering what mods to do first, and what size turbo to put on to get fast spool and mondo power with the stroke. I would love ideas, and tips.

i gotta t4 turbo kit for your car.. that would work perfect.. and its cheap.. bout 600.. comes with everything that u'll need for it.. every bold and gasket that u'll need.. and all u needa do to get a quick spool.. use a shot of nos..

First things first... Define "MONDO POWER!"

Secondly: Before any kind of realistic idea as to what you should do should be mentioned... You need to give a little more of a description as to what you want to do. You say street/strip. Cool, but give a couple of your priorities. Gas mileage, Dyno numbers, Quarter times, Show stopping power, ect...

A combination of these things could result in much less that 15k. On the other hand it could also result in much more. It all is going to depend on what your looking for.

To give you an idea though: MY OLD SETUP

I had less than 15k and was doing pretty well. If you are looking for something different, say what it is.

Good luck!

Your page really helped alot. You've got almost exactly the same parts that I was looking at, I was planning on going with a gt-35, and a 44mm wastegate. I need to buy the car too, so my performance budget will probly be around 13k, but I might spend less. All depends on how much stuff I put into the stroker motor. i am going to go with ffwdconnection, and little parts add up real quick. Thanks for the link to your page, it really helped alot. :D

No Problem man! Excelant choice going to Darren at FFWD. That guy rules. He is one of the only people I know of right now that have the 2.4 cranks too.

Strokers and 35r's are such a sweet combo. I have just finished a 2G with a wisco/pauter 2.3L and a 30r. Killer street setup.

Good Luck with everything!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. But you probably wont get the entire bonus after MOS school, possibly half of it then the rest spread out each year until its paid up. Ask your recruiter, if he lies to you find an air force forum and ask there.

I think you should listen to TJ !!! Being active duty and familiar with recruiting/retention practices, as well as SRB's (Service Reenlistment/Enlistment Bonuses) you should really clarify your bonus status. Most like he said are paid over time, maybe half up front and then yearly installments paid on the Month of the enlistment. I also think your thread should be more about your bad choice in military branches, not the need for speed !!! ROFL ROFL just kidding, good luck and one piece of advice... Never trust your recruiter !!!!!! shady, very shady characters :sneaky: :sneaky: :sneaky:

A recruiter would do anything to get you into the army or w.e you are applying for. They get paid by the count of heads they get into the force. Kinda sounds like a car salesman no?

nice setup with the car, how much hp are you aiming at? 2000 for a 1g with a blown engine is a LOT there are few in the classifieds for under 300. Dont get ripped off on your car like I did. 4500 for an n/a auto. At least it was a 2g.

Yea def check with your recruiter on that one, when i joined i got a 7k sign on bonus. I didnt see any of it until about 2 months after Tech School...and then what they do is chop all the taxes off the 7k, then split that in half. They give you half and then the rest over time, and besides that the highest bonus offered right now besides re-enlistment is 10k for Explosive Ordinance Disposal (has a 75% failure rate). Check your recuiter, they are 99.9% shadey.

Recruiters don't get paid by how many people the enlist, they have a quota based on the area they are assigned, if they don't reach their quota it reflects negatively on performance reports. That does not affect their paychecks however.

I know you guys are trying to help but i know that he asked what he should be doing to his car, it's ok to tell him that he probably won't get all of the money straight up but then you don't need 10 posts telling him that the recruiters are liars. Just tell him what to do with the cash he will most likely be getting.

LOL this thread rocks.
I'm in the Air Force. Any questions you have, ask me and I'll do my best to help you along.
If you'd like my phone number feel free to PM me and ask.
Now, lets get this thread back on track....

I'd personally stay away from the Stroker setup simply because no one has really proven that it's better than the good 'ole 2.0.
Save your money on that and go ahead and get a nice beefy motor.
Do a full engine build and get all of your tuning and monitoring stuff in place.
After that the rest is "cheap" since you've already spent 2k on electronics and 3k on engine build parts and labor.
