14b rebuild questions

I have a 95 tsi and a car payment, cell phone payment, and school bills that makes it damned near impossible to do much modifying.
Well i have a friend that use to have a turbo laser and when he got rid of it he pulled the turbo and it sat in his garage for a few years until he gave it to me. He actually gave me this turbo before i ever got or planned on getting a dsm and now that i know a little bit about it , i understand that it can be a substantial upgrade to replace the t25 with. The only problem is that it has hella shaft play and im not exactly sure what i will need to do the conversion. Is getting this turbo rebuilt and getting the parts to put it on my car worth it? would it be cheaper to try and find a good 14b?
I did do a search on this topic as well and i found some interesting articles but none of them seemed to directly pertain to what i needed to know

Sounds like the turbos junk. Look around for a nice 14b that is in good shape with no shaft play. You can find a good one for 150

so you cant get em rebuilt?

You can but it will cost you 350.00

you can find rebuild kits for about 100$, and after you rebuilt it yourself, you can have it balanced for 37$ from forced performance.
It's not hard to rebuilt the turbo yourself.
