Hi, I am running a 1.6L Mazda Miata engine with a DSM style turbo setup on it. It originally had a ebay 16g on it that accumulated too much shaft play and I am scrapping that thing. I am planning on trying to keep the new turbo around 8psi which is how I got mine, but would like to run it closer to 10-12psi in the near future.

Since it does not have a standalone ecu, it doesn't have the most optimal tune right now. which is why I thought I might buy the 14B, which I also heard comes with a 8psi wastegate already. I also was thinking that the smaller 14b would be more efficient for a small motor like a 1.6L. My plans for this car are mainly autocross racing, so I would like to have a nice spool time.

If any of you turbo pros have any comments about what you would run on this engine, let me know. If I start driving it around more often, I will be looking to get more top end out of it while still keeping the spool time pretty short.

I would suggest a small 16g. Spools as quick as the 14b, flows a hair less air than a Big 16g, and can be found for very cheap. I take it you don't want to run more than 10psi because of the stock compression engine?

A friend of mine is running a 14b on his bone stock 1.6L Miata. He only runs 8psi and it still pulls hard. Since your only wanting to increase to 10-12psi I would just get a 14b unless you come across a small 16g for the same money. At those boost levels they're practically the same and if you really want more power, just go up a couple more psi on the 14b.
