So call me an idiot if you want, but I've been looking and I can't find any videos of the 14b on an open-downpipe. Anyone ever do it? Can you hear the turbo through the exhaust? I believe that its the larger turbos that make more noise through the pipe. Just wanting a little insight before doing it to see if its worth something to play around with for a bit.

Here's my favorite sound sample of open down-pipe

I had some problems with my last DSM popping down pipe nuts on hard shifts until I replaced the wornout motor mounts with poly inserts. A 16g (should sound the same as 14b) was nice and loud with lots of spool noise with with an open o2, I imagine it would be similar with an open down pipe.

I did this for about 5 minutes, after I finally got my 14b after 2 months of waiting for it (long story) Sounds awesome, and sexy. Everyone at work for some reason thought I was hitting off the rev. limiter, no idea why never revved over 3k LOL. Can still hear it under boost with 3in exhaust, from flex pipe back.

Just have a cut out pipe and flange welded on. you can unbolt the plate and be as noisy as you want if it won't be a problem, then bolt it shut again to be civil... that's what I did. On the track, it's open and loud as hell, but on the street my car is pretty well mannered. Easiest way to have it both ways, and it'll cost you less than a noise violation ticket to have installed.
