hey all, ive gotta get my EGT powered up. i have a 52mm phantom autometer EGT and i got the lights working in all my gauges but im not sure where to tap the power for the EGT, not the light, the gauge itself. I got it grounded already but havnt got the power yet. Ive seen that the ignition power is a constant 12v and would like to just tap that line if i can unless theres a better way. The reason i havnt done this yet is cause i dunno what color wire im looking for or even where the wire is, can some fill me in?:)

It's easiest to grab a switched 12v from the cig. lighter. If you use a constant 12v you will put a slow drain on your car's battery.

Now that I never knew. That explains that prob. :thumb:

i dunno what one your talking about, i used a green and white wire off the cig lighter for all my lighting, what color do i use for the EGT power? but if i dont use a constant 12v then the gauge wont be powered all the time, right? help...:(

Don't do this:

The wire you used for your lighting is the wire that powers the bulb for the light on the cig. lighter. Use the power wire for the cig. lighter to power the EGT gauge. I don't know the color because I hava a 1g but you can see where the wires go. You're not doing electrical work without a multimeter are you?

can someone please tell me what color wire i need to tap into from the ciglighter or ignintion, either one would be fine, ignition would prolly be since i already have a bunch of stuff coming from the cig lighter, but either would be fine i just need to know what wires im going for....:( help:(

i guess ima just run it to the cig lighter fuse in the fuse box and up the fuse to a 30amp and just hope itll power my EGT, cause im not really sure what to do still.:(

well what i ended up doing what putting the power forthe EGT right to the cig lighter fuse and its working fine, i did use a 30 amp though...but i also have the 2 lights on the cig lighter but not right at the fuse, theres spliced in right under the lighter itself, what size should i use? O and all my gauges and lights seem to working fine.

its been working fine all this time, im still wondering if 30 amp is to much though... a friend just told me it was but its been working fine since i last posted on this thread...any opinions?

Everything should work fine on a 30amp. The problem lies in if you get a short or two of the wires cross. With as small a gauge as the wiring is on that circuit, it will melt and possibly catch fire with a 30amp overload on it. You want a smaller fuse so that it pops before you melt the wiring and possibly destroy other things on that circuit. Try going 5amp above what the stock rating was. If you pop the fuse shortly after go 5amp more. Adding a gauge or two or even an AFC shouldn't create more than an additional 5amps of draw on that circuit.
