yeah, well i was thinkin about that as well. figured maybe the fuel was just being hard to fire off. well anyway, it's been raining and so guessing the track will be closed tomorrow. dang it. decided to throw in some 93 octane. half a tank 114, half a tank 93. all that part throttle knock went away. wot knock is gone too. perfect mix. guess next time i need to get a lower octane. dunno how many of ya'll have ran 114, but i'm recommending against it. i have ngk 7's at .028 that are brand new and magnecor wires. sure i have enough spark. oh and yeah, it was leaded.

i bet the fact that it was leaded might have been messing things up. i could be wrong though.

knock like that would be a pretty big concern of mine... you gotta remember that higher octane fuel is harder for the engine to burn, so i would look at getting new plugs and wires. also, was this leaded or unleaded?

I thought that higher octane fuel burned better and more completely than regular gas??? And that was why it made more power.

the thing about higher octane is that it is less likely to detonate so you can run higher compression, boost, or nitrous. it is harder to ignite, hence why it would be difficult to start a car with 114 in sub zero temperatures. hell, its hard to start my car with 93 in it. but the other cars we have here have lower octane fuel and they are all much easier to start in the cold than my car is.

I have run plenty of race gas, as well as other friends of mine to know that the knock you're seeing is most likely not caused by lead. Honestly do you really think that lead deposits have built up THAT much to cause problems? No. You are 99.9% just seeing phantom knock. Its not uncommon for phantom knock to read the levels you are seeing, and in fact that is a very good sign of it. The other sign would be a failing knock sensor, but most likely that isnt the case. Have you ever changed or cleaned your lifters? Race gas is race gas, its nothing that will kill a car as many are making it out to sound here. The amount of lead in the fuels is nothing that will kill an O2 sensor in any short period of time, let alone the amount it would deposit on the plugs. Pull and clean or replace your lifters. 1g's have absolutely horrible ports on the lifters so honestly I would suggest just changing them out.

i never said i thought it was the lead. i was sayin i thought it was from it not igniting. when i have tons of knock and my timing goes all the way down to 0, it doesn't make me think it IS firing. but of course i dunno if phantom knock would be pulling timing or if only real knock does that. i dunno. of course i don't know how higher octane would cause knock at part throttle if i'm not getting it at WOT.
