I just bought a 93 plymouth laser 1.8. When I get the car to start, it dies immediately after. It won't idle on its own unless I pump the gas a little it will idle up, but if I give it too much it'll died.

My generator light, battery light and brake light are on all the time. Would this have anything to do with my running issues even when it has a fresh brand new battery?

I remeber being in your shoes. If you have a voltmeter you can test the charge of the battery by hooking it up and watching for 12.6 volts while running it should be at 13.6 to 14.6. If you do not have one you should seriously invest in one if you plan on working on your own car. Here is another option. You can can call your closest autoparts dealer to see if they test batteries for free (I like O'Reilly's) and if they do, have them test it. I would change the fuel filter for the sake of doing it because you do not know when the last owner did. Wix is a very good brand of filter.

Battery tested good and I took the alt in and it's good. The previous owner was a good friend and he had just replaced the fuel filter in hopes it would fix the problem. The car will run fine off starting fluid so it's a fuel problem somewhere. I'm thinking its the regulator but I don't want to start throwing parts at it hoping it fixes the problem.

Has it been sitting for a while? Maybe water in the tank or lines?
Maybe injectors are clogged.
Maybe fpr going out. Also check your fuel pressure I think you can rent that tool from a parts store.
Just start checking possible issues off the list and you'll find the issue.

You should put a fuel guage to it then. That will answer your question about it having leaking injectors or if it needs a fuel pressure regulator. You really need to invest in these tools if you are going to work on your own car, not unless you have a friend you can bum all of your tools like I do. :thumb:
