Hi guys, I'm new to DSMs and to the tuning world. I've just purchased my 99 Eclipse GSX which runs awesome but the previous owner put an eBay 16g turbo in which has side play so that's coming out right away for something reliable!

My goal is a street build that's reliable as possible somewhere between 350 hp to 400 hp. My question is this, I was thinking of an Evo 3 16g turbo port out from extreme psi. Are they reliable and since I'm already set up for the 16g should I get anything else than the turbo and hardware and new hoses?

I was also thinking of installing a good set of tubular exhaust manifold for sound and looks since I'm not racing because I''m sure cast iron is more solid although mine was already cracked once since its welded. I'm also adding and AEM oil pressure gauge.

Real MHI Evo16g yes, Ebay Evo16g.... maybe. The usual consensus has usually been no, but there are some that have been able to make it work and would disagree. Ebay may have gotten better over the years, but theres no indication of how old yours might be.

You need to fill out your vehicle profile https://www.dsmtuners.com/dsm-profiles/ This is important because your supporting mods are going to make a big difference in the correct answers that you get as we have no idea if someone just slapped a 16g on there or if they actually did it the right way to not set you up for failure. Turning up the boost on it would create a lean condition if youre running a stock fuel system. Do you know what type of fuel management your car has? If youre set on specific horsepower numbers rather than how the car feels, youre gonna need to be setup on E85 to get to 350+ out of it. I have an EVO16g with supporting mods, its plenty fun enough for me on the streets as im not much into racing anymore. Perhaps, ill do E85 for the detenation factor and its widely available in my area.

I ran that turbo for a long time. They're very robust and make for a fantastic street car. At the minimum, you'll want some bigger injectors and fuel pump, as well as a bigger intercooler, downpipe, exhaust, and a way to tune it all. If you have the means to use e85, I strongly recommend it.

Thanks for the advice. I've filled out my vehicle profile to give insite on the car set up. From what i know so far i'm running a 255 fuel pump on 550cc injector, mishimoto front mount intercooler, mishimoto radiator, injen intake and a 3in mugen exhaust system with ecm link on stock internals with arp head studs. I'm also putting in new coil packs with new Ngk plug wires and spark plugs to stay on safe side. Compression is good also 160 psi on 1 and 2 and 165 and 170psi on 3 and 4. But since i'm far north in canada we don't have e85 here so if i cain't acheve 400hp in the future with this setup well it is what it is ! It's already fun a 300+.Which was my question on what turbo to get because i like the fast spool on the 16g but i'm only gona buy a new turbo once since its a street build.
