Howdy! I've had this baby since 03' and I'm hoping to find a shop that specializes in DSM's - hopefully 1G as it's highly modified and I need some issues addressed. (Especially the wonderful smog issue.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated as it seems most don't know much on these anymore or would rather not work on them.

Thanks a lot!!

Did you ever find anyone? I am looking into getting mine on the road again.
Theres a few people you can go to. There's tedspec in San Jose area which would be my top recommendation. Some others would be overkill in Sacramento and Horsepower Industries in Fairfield. You can possibly find local dsmers to help you out as well but as far as shops go these would be the ones you can try but I can only vouch for tedspec from my personal experience.

Thank you for your response. I work in Fairfield (live closer to Sac) so i will reach out to them.

Ultimately, i want to do a complete restoration (interior, exterior, new top, engine, suspension, etc). I have had my GST Spyder for going on 20 years. Some good high school memories for my wife and I in that baby. Been sitting for 17 years waiting for me to get to it, i just have never got around to restoring it myself. [hard to believe it has been that long]

I was thinking the first step is to take it to a shop to get it running and derivable, then go from there on the restoration. [i hyper extended the slave cylinder back in the day and when i replaced the slave cylinder, the clutch never completely re-engaged and i never got around to dropping the tranny to look]

No problem, just make sure you get quality parts for the car when the mechanic digs into the car. ARP head studs, etc. Or you can build a separate engine and just throw it in. So many different avenues you can go really. If the goal is just to get it drivable then just leak down test, compression test. Maybe try adjusting the clutch master cylinder rod to see if you can get the clutch to engaged/disengage properly. Also oem slave cylinder is the best part to get because the local auto parts ones are terrible in my opinion. You'll find 99% of your answers searching this forum. Looking forward to seeing the restoration.

[long delay LOL]

Thanks for the info. I finally got to the point where i have started calling shops to get this project going. As you stated, DSM mechanics seem to be far and few between nowadays. I put in a few call and emails today. So far i was recommended to Dynasty Performance in Lodi, Modern Classics in Sac and a have an email into TedSpec.

I hope to post the restoration progress for those who are interested and have any advise/recommendation.

My first goal is to get it into a shop for a leak down test, replace everything timing, SMOG - more or less get mechanically sound for the road and then phase it out from there.

If anything has changed on the local shop front that you are aware of, please feel free to throw some names out there.
