topic title says it all, car runs fine, cold start, cruises about 45psi. but after its all warmed up i let it sit at idle in my driveway and my (aftermarket) oil pressure gauge is at about 2psi with no dash light (ever)....

possible bad gauge?

You may not have a good connection or a loose connecton on your aftermarket guage. It could cause the hose to leak at opperating temps.

It also could be the sending unit for the gauge. They don't like vibration. I personally have gone through 3 of them in less than 12,000 miles.

this might just be another newbie question, but i was told it might be that i do have 0psi at warm idle which would probably be a bad pump, if that were so how can i have 0psi after warmed up and absolutley no overheating??

still looking for answers, so on warm idle(750rpm's) vac is @19, oil pressure is @0psi... @1100rpm's oil pressure is @11psi.

looked it up and warmed up @750rpm's oil pressure should be @11.4psi
also my oil pressure sending unit has 2 connections? which are connected with what looks like a stereo wire (the kind you can seperate like a twisler into two) going to the gauge. it dosnt look like any one i've seen on the forum niether does it look like the one on my 95 gsx.

If it were my car I would get a quality aftermarket oil pressure guage that comes with a new sending unit like this. Auto Meter 4327 - Auto Meter Ultra-Lite Analog Gauges - Overview - SummitRacing.com

I have the same one and it works great.:thumb:

IF that shows the same results then you may have something to worry about. You may have some worn bearings causing the oil pressure to be extremely low other than simply just a bad oil pump.:|

I called it tired motor .. main bearings are tired and letting oil blow past them.

Sure, when the oil is cold, it's more thicker and will make the gauge read either high or normal, but when it gets hot and thin, the gauge will read less pressure. But tight bearings won't show to much of a diffference in pressure either thick or thin, but weak bearings will made the difference noticable.

One can do a test by finding a way to build up oil pressure with the oil pan off and see if the main bearings are holding oil. They should just barely drip when bearings are tight, but you'll see a stream of oil with worn bearings - which will cause gauge fluxuations on a cold to a hot motor.

-good luck - DSM

first of all thank you for all the input everyone. well luckily where i work we have shelves of gauges so i borrowed one to test the the pressure coming out the oil pump. just a regular 0-100psi mechanical pressure gauge same threads ect. fit fine let the car warm up again and what do you know 11.5 psi @ 750rpm's, at hot idle (whoop whoop) nothing to serious to worry about right now, more than likely a bad sending unit. changed oil to 10w30 from 5w... funny thing is when i put the sending unit back on and drove it, the electrical gauge was working fine. i stoped at a stop sign and it read 11psi then i got home and it read 0psi again  i have pics, since i stated earlier that it had a pos. and neg. connections on it, not like everyone elses with just one connector. and also it running with the mechanical gauge :thumb:
